Atlanta, the "New York" of the American south. It's a new city even by American standards, it was still a village in the mid 19th century but then quickly gained prominence as a business center of the region, starting out as an important railroad junction. However it was later again reduced to nothing in the American Civil War and emerged as a new, modern metropolis in the 20th century.

Quality of the pictures is less than satisfactory, it was a quick stop and I didn't have my camera with me.

By the way, in terms of the skyline, the city also resembled Frankfurt to me.

considering we're the first ones with skyscrapers, wouldn't it be the other way around? like Frankfurt resembles Atlanta?

anyways Great pics. come to the west coast and see how many amazing cities we have in this part of the country.

Thanks.

Perhaps. But the reason why I said that Atlanta resembles Frankfurt is because I knew what Frankfurt looked like before I saw Atlanta.

I will, one day. At least seeing LA, San Francisco and Seattle is a must. Also southern giants such as Houston and Dallas are definitely part of my potential trips.

Thanks.

I actually made a very detailed plan on visiting Baltimore but at the last moment I couldn't make it (my friend actually went there without me but didn't take any pics). I still might visit it in the future.

Nice, the Philly collection is outstanding. I'm not that familiar with the city but the ensemble of old and new rocks. Comcast Center really spices up the skyline. Awesome work

The Washinton & Philadelphia pictures are awesome. I love the impressive colonial and neoclassical architecture. I will definitely have to make a plan to see those places. New York looks great as expected.

I was lazy and relatively busy for awhile, but now I'll continue. I actually just did some additional traveling to Harrisburg, Lancaster, the Amish country and a return visit to Philadelphia.

Continuing with Atlanta

Since I decided to cut my classes today, I'll continue with this thread. Some of you may have already seen the following in the other threads, but given the historical context of it and the theme of this exhibition, this is a must show/see:

USS Constitution, known as "Old Ironsides," is a wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy. Named after the United States Constitution, she is the oldest commissioned ship afloat in the world. Constitution was one of the six original frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794 and was launched in 1797. Joshua Humphreys designed them to be the Navy's capital ships and so Constitution and her sisters were larger and more heavily armed than the standard frigates of the period.

This ship has had a long and fascinating history, you can read about it here

This is how an officers quarters looked like, which was still luxurious in comparison to what the enlisted sailors had

Sorry for the delay. Here's Amish country for a chance. There's about 200,000 of them in America, they speak mostly German (although they call it Pennsylvania Dutch, - it has nothing to do with Dutch judging by what I heard) with each other and do not use modern technology to different degree, depending on community.

Amish teenagers are allowed to drive and use all kinds of modern products, then they have a choice to remain Amish or join the rest of the civilization.
