Finally, they can start working on digging the canals at Canalside. It'll be great to see some tangible progress once again!

I agree that the casino is not as bad as most people are making it out be. The design is not what I was expecting but I think without the other amenities it will be a benefit to the area. What happened to Seneca Gaming having its HQ here? Also, it looks like the casino and parking garage aspects in both the 2007 and current renderings are in the same location and around the same size so I have a feeling a hotel will follow soon after this is up and running in a similar location as the old rendering.

Amazing how Buffalo hosted the Pan Am Expo. Yet it was Miami that become the true Pan Am city! Here’s one from the Believe it or Not file: In 1960, Buffalo & Miami were about the same size metros! Buffalo would be doing VERY WELL today had it attracted just 10% of the immigrants that Miami has. However given the rather extreme differences in climate, obviously Buffalo’s not the best suited for Miami Design. Also, the days when Miami (or LA for that matter) was known for ugly drive-in boxes ringed by parking lot sprawl has long since given way to Andres Duany style New Urbanism! |

The Seneca's have an opportunity to help create and build up the Cobblestone/Canalside area as an exciting destination, even with a reduced footprint. Instead they are building a suburban style car oriented bunker which will have negligible impact on the surrounding area. At least they'll hire more people(though the number they're giving out is BS), and the site plan is so open that they could actually make urban friendly down the line, though they won't.

That was on the Rochester board not on the Boston board. Plus Mighty Taco is a Buffalo company so it could help the Buffalo economy. A Rochester company on Boston has no impact on Buffalo's economy.
You can post whatever you want, I just thought you made a mistake and meant your comment for the Boston board where it WOULD be relevant. I didn't mean to offend you. Last edited by fubo; March 29th, 2012 at 08:29 PM. Reason: to remove abbreviations from phone post |

A developer friend says that Dino BBQ has a lease in hand for a Buffalo location. I've heard two rumors- Niagara Street and also near the Medical Campus.

Niagara st would have to be the old rascals ice cream joint hust south of forest, which would be great to see some activity there. I can't picture anyplace near the med campus, maybe a new build on michigan?

Medical School Designs
Is the is the best kept secret in all of Buffalo? Does anyone have any of the four renderings? It is kind of driving me nuts. |

But if they're working with Ellicott- speculation is the Busti Avenue bldg near the Peace Bridge where Ellicott is planning apartments OR Our Lady of Lourdes church on Main. The Catholic Diocese has put restrictions on church reuses, but I don't know if that holds on this one.

Nothing! I've asked and the PR person said she was trying to put something together to send out. She also stressed that the competition was only picking the design team, not the building design. I think they may not want to share in order to not raise expectations? It was odd that the event the other night was supposed to be public and then went invite-only.

The news article seemed to say that only one of the designs incorporated retail on the Main St side. I hope they will be encouraging that a little more. |

Two-way traffic on Pearl St. in works
The oft-discussed plan to convert Pearl Street in downtown Buffalo from one-way traffic into a two-way traffic is poised to happen. City planners are fine tuning a series of bids and construction documents needed for the work. The bids will be released later this spring and awards selected during the summer. The actual construction is slated to start by late summer or early fall and completed by next spring. When completed, Pearl Street will see two-way traffic beginning at Tupper Street and heading south towards Lower Terrace Street. The Pearl Street project is part of an estimated $1.5 million allocation by the City of Buffalo that also includes some streetscape improvements along Chippewa Street. http://www.bizjournals.com/buffalo/b...-pearl-st.html |
