As for me:

1. NYC (Northeast)
2. Chicago (Midwest)
3. Miami (Southeast)
4. L.A. (Southwest)
5. Seattle (Northwest)

These cities pretty much cover most of the good ole U.S.A.

I would definately say that Minneapolis fits your criteria, including having a big city feel. The University of Minnesota is a GREAT uni to go to and the city has extensive nightlife

From what I know the MUSTs are:

1.NYC
2.Miami
3.San Francisco
4.Chicago
5.Las Vegas

The most overrated for me (from what I know):
1. Atlanta
2. Park City
3. Fort Lauderdale

but the worst, without doubt Salt Lake City, although I dont think is overrated by anybody.
