Phnom Penh post : New $30m development

In Brief: New $30m development
Friday, 13 November 2009 15:00 Soeun Say

JAPANESE developer Arakawa Co broke ground Thursday on a US$30 million apartment building in Phnom Penh’s Russei Keo district overlooking the Tonle Sap river. The 16-storey Bellevue Apartment will have 143 residential apartments, a high-tech security system, fitness centre, tennis court, swimming pool and rooftop garden Arakawa Chief Executive Officer Alex Yasumoto said at the event. The apartments will be rented rather than sold, and rental prices will be based on the market at the time, he added. The market is expected to recover once a recovery from the economic crisis kicks in.

The quality of the construction maybe good but it is taking the construction company really long to build. From the photo that is posted, you can see Gold Tower 42 (GT 42) is moving along at a faster pace even though ground floor construction on GT 42 started much later than De Castle. By the looks of it, GT 42 is going to be finished first.

Golden Sorya Mall full
Wednesday, 18 November 2009 15:00 Soeun Say

THE owner of the new Phnom Penh Golden Sorya Mall, which opened earlier this month on Street 51, said all 178 stores had already been let to tenants. Un Chiv said the US$1 million, 9,000-square-metre market targeted the lower and middle classes based on research showing that 70 percent of Cambodians were priced out of the market by department stores. Store rentals worked out at $12 per square metre per month, he said. In comparison, City Mall Shopping Centre charges between $40 and $65 per square metre each month, clothing vendor Rin Manith told the Post in October during a protest over high rentals at City Mall.
