Emirates recently introduced their first direct route Scandinavia-Dubai with daily flights from CPH.

Now there are plans to start up a new route with A380's from Dubai-Stockholm ARN, this will probably mean some serious competition for Norwegian Air. The only airline serving that route for the moment with 3 flights a week.

This new airline route has to do with the extension of Dubai airport.

http://www.anna.aero/2013/01/09/leak...and-stockholm/

This will absolutely add some international atmosphere to Stockholm ARN which has few flight destinations outside Europe.

To ARN with an A380? I would not say so. They will be lucky if they get a B777.

I think EK operating an A380 to ARN may not be justifiable at the moment. I'd rather see the route operated with either a B77W, A343, A345, or at the very least, A332. Besides, SK does not operate any flight to DXB, is it?

The A380 is usually deployed on routes to promote the product offering...
EK have operated promotional flights to Munich, Athens, Milan, Birmingham...

Oh ok. Also Barcelona too.

And by the way, should the Falcon Route take off, that would mean both QF and EK will benefit because EK operates five daily A380 trips to London Heathrow from Dubai, while the same airline also operates multiple frequencies a day to various Australian cities, from Perth to Brisbane to Sydney. Perhaps if QF will operate the Falcon Route too, I wonder how many A380 flights will be operated between Dubai and Heathrow (not discounting of course EK's flights to Gatwick too) in the process, and what the flight coordination will be like (say, up to three hours transfer times between flights, and it will be at nighttime to connect with other European flights...)

The partnership has been given the green light by the ACCC (draft) with a few amendments proposing the agreement be for 5 years which QF are happy to agree on at this point...
The partnership will mean a total of 7 daily LHR A380 services 5 x EK & 2 x QF...

That would be fun indeed to watch. So QF will still operate flights to LHR from both Sydney and Melbourne... And with a stopover in Dubai, that would mean some serious competition with EK since it operates both Sydney and Melbourne to Dubai with A380. That will be something I'll be looking forward to.

Both services from SYD/MEL will compliment the EK services not compete...
The advantage's it brings to QF passengers is the variety of European flights available from DXB onboard EK... & vise versa with EK accessing QF's domestic network...

What I mean of compete in that sense would be more of the in-flight services, not necessarily the flight times.

If your referring to inflight offering's both carriers have announced a plan to match product offerings... Just an example QF have introduced a limousine service on flights to LAX & LHR...
Furthermore, QF passengers will be eligible to utilize the EK lounge...

SUMMARY OF SCHEDULE CHANGES
ROUTE CHANGE FOR TRAVEL FROM 31 MARCH 2013
Sydney–Singapore–London and Melbourne–Singapore–London: Flights will operate via Dubai instead of Singapore, en route to London. Direct services to Singapore will remain but timings will improve.
Sydney–Singapore: Four new dedicated Singapore services per week, timed to better connect to onward flights within Asia.
Melbourne–Singapore: Dedicated Singapore service, seven times a week, timed to connect better to onward flights within Asia.
Singapore–London: Qantas services on this sector will cease. Qantas will codeshare on British Airways flights to provide connections via Singapore for travellers on Qantas services from Australia.

Both flights will run on the Red Roo's flagship Airbus A380.
The daily QF001 will depart Sydney at 16:05, arriving into Dubai at 00:35. After a 90 minute stopover, travellers will bid farewell to Dubai at 02:05am and hello to London at 06:35.
Qantas says the Melbourne-Dubai-London QF009 flight will be wheels up from Melbourne at 15:30, landing in Dubai at 22:30, then begin the second leg of the journey at 01:10 to reach London at 05:40.

It looks like Dubai will have a brand new, low-cost carrier operating to DXB: Cebu Pacific to launch its first long-haul flight to Dubai from October 2013. Cebu Pacific will use its Airbus A330-300, configured in an all-economy seating, for its daily Manila-Dubai service starting 7 October 2013. Reservations for this flight has started 17 January 2013. Schedule:

5J7944 MNL1640 – 2140DXB 333 D
5J7945 DXB2310 – 1140+1MNL 333 D

Thanks! If I recall correctly, Cebu Pacific bought eight brand new A330s for use on medium- to long-haul routes from Manila to augment budget-conscious travelers from the Philippines. With such a development, it will compete against EK's dominant presence on the Manila-Dubai route, with 3x daily rotations.
