So will that hanger be suitable for all airplanes or is it just for one airplane? Nice pics.

Each hangar can service aircraft up to the size of an A380,so that building basically consists of 4 hangars ( note the special area above the doors for tails) that will help to create the ideal environment for the servicing of aircraft.

That truly means that EK can repair a lot of its aircraft in DXB and may rely less on operating overseas for cabin replacement or refurbishing, aircraft repair and maintenance, or other needs. One question though: how much is the total construction cost, and who shouldered the most money for its construction?

The question we should be asking is 'why' wasn't the new maintenance hangars built at DWC?

Well I am not exactly sure as to how Emirates carry out maintenance and modernization works, but there are already 6 existing Emirates Engineering hangars that serve for maintenance and modernization at DXB. So I think Emirates Engineering is just expanding its capacity?

I think that is because Emirates Engineering (note that it is not part of the airline, but rather the Emirates Group) has already been established at DXB. This would likely mean that once Emirates moves to DWC, their maintenance and modernization will remain at DXB.

Appears EK are satisfied with the A380 performance & keen to order more.

However, an additional order by Emirates of Airbus A380s will depend on the infrastructure at Dubai Airport.

It's not the number of available gates that are limiting capacity at DXB...it's a lack of usable runways and airspace limitations. The two closely-spaced parallel runways are already scheduled far beyond capacity during many hours of the day. 0700-1000 and 2000-0300 are periods that almost always result in airborne holding and extensive gate holds for departures due to saturation over the same departure fixes.

Thanks for sharing. It is pretty cool that DXB went from a small middle eastern airport to a mega airport that is a very important connecting hub for the world and is home to a mega airline.

Is there any information about Sharjah airport expansion? Currently new runways is being built, but no news, info? According google earth this new runway has already shape, some already built parts. I was wondering if they are able to finish this runway within a year, why not to divert some DXB flight over here next summer when DXB's runway will close? Sharjah airport already has a facility and it is definately closer to city centre of Dubai than DWC. Can anyone share own thaught?

Yes it is like this....you have a Mercedes Benz (MB) in your garage and a Kia outside in the parking lot and your neighbor has a Honda ...when your MB is being serviced, you will drive the Kia and not ask your neighbor to lend his Honda!!

In the same way, Sharjah and Dubai are 2 neighboring Emirates (or as known in the Disney world fairytales as Kingdoms)....Each Kingdom under the United Arab Emirates has its own policies, economies except when its a federal project (like the rail network, the highways in emirates north of Dubai etc.) or when they need money....then they go to Abu Dhabi, the capital!!

I think because they are Emirates Engineering hangars and EK has no plan to move there until at least 2025. But I agree that with DXB already having not much room and EK moving to DWC soon or a later, I don't get why they continue to invest money on new facilities at DXB.

National Geographic TV had a in-depth documentary about Dubai Airport but I missed it everytime it was on TV.

Anyone seen it and posted it online?

I watched like 43 minutes of it and it stops abruptly for me. Does anyone why? Why doesn't EK retime the SYD flight that arrives close to the curfew, so it departs DXB later but still manages to get in before the curfew? It seems stupid that they waited for 25 some odd people to show up for that one flight alone. That would really suck for the gate workers to do that every night day after day. Loved the show otherwise.

It depends on the circumstances if they hold the flight or not. Was the 25+ passengers connecting from another EK service or simply late to their gate due to Duty Free shopping?

Now that I've sat down & watched the video I understand your question & they state why the flight was held up. Firstly, they had approximately 200+ pax missing, then 27+ from Birmingham, Manchester & Glasgow. The last 7+ remaining pax are extremely lucky as they had already commenced the offload procedures & then the gate agent was granted a further 5 minutes to get passengers on the flight.

Thank you for restating my original question. Don't you think Emirates needs to take that in consideration for not only that flight but all the major connecting flights? Especially for the future growth of the airline and capacity growth?
