Hilton Hotels & Resorts Set To Take Off At Dubai World Central

New Hilton Hotel to Open As Part of 145 Square Kilometer Master Planned Urban Development

http://www.hospitalitynet.org/news/4070534.html

Quote:
Hilton Worldwide today announced the signing of a management agreement with the Hospitality Division of the Mohammad Omar Bin Haider Holding Group to open Hilton Dubai World Central (DWC), an upscale 535 guest-room hotel in the heart of DWC - the 145 square kilometre master planned urban development centered on Dubai's Al Maktoum International Airport.

"With Hilton Worldwide's multi-brand vision for Dubai and a 50-year legacy of outstanding hospitality in the region we are delighted to be once again at the forefront of the industry, with the addition of our flagship Hilton brand in DWC," said Rudi Jagersbacher, president, Middle East and Africa for Hilton Worldwide. "Across the Middle East and Africa, Hilton Worldwide expects to open an average of one hotel per month over the course of the next few years and plans to more than double our portfolio here in Dubai."

Anticipated to open in early 2019, Hilton Dubai World Central will be well placed for guests who want to stay in close proximity to the main passenger entrance to the Al Maktoum International Airport which, since opening to passenger traffic in 2013, is expected to develop its position to become a leading global hub for aviation in the Middle East. The hotel will also be located close to the venue of Dubai Expo 2020, a focal point for Dubai's tourism objective of reaching 20 million visitors per year.

Traffic figures for the first half year 2015

Quote:
The year to date traffic surged 10.4 per cent to reach 38,299,291, compared to 34,676,090 during the first half of 2014.

IMHO the expected 79 million in 2015 are not possible. Can't see DXB reaching a growth rate of 12%.

Yeah, I don't think so either. The weak Russian economy and now the weak Euro are hurting traffic figures.

Any DWC news? Is any expansion work happening?

This was supposed to be a mega-airport. So far it's a one runway supplement to DXB.

In 10 years the airport will have over 100mio passengers but at the same time they will close the airport.

there are no plans to close DXB.
EK plans to move it's operations to DWC as there will be far more room for growth at that location but DXB will continue to operate.

I doubt that. The location of the DXB airport is really bad. Not for the airlines but for the people living in Deira.

When they close the airport it would be easier to sell properties on Palm Deira. Sharjah and Dubai could growth much easier together.

And Emirates will not allow other airlines to use the airport in such a good location.

I don't EK will mind being based at DWC and keeping DXB open. Only 20% of EK's passenger traffic is starting or ending their journey in Dubai. And by the time EK moves to DWC, there will be the Etihad Rail, metro connection, and highways that connect DWC with the rest of Dubai and the country. Personally, I feel like they should close DXB in order to make DWC even more busy but they've invested too much to close is so soon.

Will DXB continue to operate when DWC becomes fully operational?
