Press were today treated to an introduction to the world’s first ‘building in motion’. Rotating Tower, designed by Italian architect David Fisher, is expected to move from design to reality in less than two years.
The first post of this thread - back in June. So I guess the Dynamic Tower should be about one quarter complete by now?

What about the conic-shaped 1001 one?

Good question. I'm not at Arup anymore and I haven't heard anything more about it. Perhaps it was just a concept that the developer decided to shelve. I assume anything that was uncertain a year ago is now definitely not happening, due to market conditions. There must be so many concepts for projects in the Middle East that this forum never even hears about. There's a few in my current office at the moment, despite the downturn.

We all know that turned out to be Prince Al Walid's Jeddah tower, the one that was first proposed (under a different design) as The Mile High Tower. There were presentations and models showing the very sharp conic shaped tower and ARUP + HYDER were associated with it.

I just had a look on the Jeddah thread - yes that's exactly the tower that I saw on the drawings/renders at Arup last year! I think it looks amazing. I'd forgotten about this recently. I didn't even think to look on that thread because I just linked Jeddah with the older design (which I personally thought was horrible).

I'm not sure how this relates to the Dynamic Tower? Perhaps you're making fun of me and I've missed the joke! Well thanks for pointing out the Jeddah Tower to me anyway - I'd completely missed it, despite knowing about the cone design a year ago!

this is one of the best projects i've seen!

My question is if it's a too big challenge to construct a building this tall with daynmic floors, why don't they edit steel frames outside so that the floors have 2 points connected with building instead of 1 so that the window-side of each floor wouldn't stand out free in the air? For this the Base of the building needs to be round so not like the version that is proposed but it would coast less and make the project more realistic.
if they find a way to complete the building the way they wanted it will be awsome but from my point of view it is very hard to do and expencive.

Anyway I hope they start soon

if i was an architect, i would make press releases about floating skyscrapers in many major cities just to see people getting excited and then see the dissapointment in their faces when someone not that naive finds out that it all is just hoax....

Thsi project is definately not a Hoax. Last month i read an article in a dutch paper for engineers about this project. There are companies and academies looking in to how to build this thing.

Don't think it will be build in a couple of years but the chances of getting build are absolutely there.

There you have it. They are trying to find out how to build this "thing", because this "thing" cannot be built the way they told us earlier. So everything we've seen so far is a vision (or a hoax, you judge).

You start with a vision. Then a design. You then go out to all the engineering companies and ask if this part can be built. These companies create internal research and projects (areas where it is not in public domain so you are not going to hear about them on these forums). Depending on the challenges, these projects can take years. This is how progress works and it is a very good thing. A hoax is a very rude and naive way of looking at it.

This thing will be built. The structural engineers will have to pull the architect's head from the clouds a little and a few concessions to functionality will have to be made, but in principal, from a physical perspective, the general idea of it can work.

I still don't believe a tower can be self-powered. If it is that "simple", every building would do it....

No, naive is calling those renders "a project" by taking this "architect", who most probably faked his degree, and has in his portfolio the "Leonardo da Vinci bathroom" and little else, at face value. This is a "vision", not a "project", since the building cannot work as it is now.
