If I remember right they supposed to be installed between the sections (they sure wouldn't be conventional turbines usually installed in towers).

As for this project. I'm not sure. This guy doesn't look too solid. He's like dubais Bill Davies Never designed a skyscraper and want to build a Dynamic Tower by himself? Don't really remember, this project is dead long time already but haven't we heard some dirty stuff about this guys business in the media?

Maybe this is just a bit too avant garde for my head, but can't help thinking the concept seems a bit.. pointless? And would it not break down every 5 minutes? In London we cant even keep those three fans on top of the Strata moving..

I think between the floors, there is space there and those places get a lot of wind.

Rotating tower in Dubai to cost Dh2bn; it will take just 6 days to assemble each floor

August 15, 2013

The estimated cost of building the Dynamic Tower in Dubai, where each of 80 floors will rotate independently, has been put at Dh2 billion by its developer.

The tower is expected to cost around Dh2 billion (£355million), Italian architect Dr David Fisher from Florence who owns the Rotating Tower Technology Company, told the Daily Mail.

The tower, industry sources said, was planned to come up on the Sheikh Zayed Road. The company did not respond to questions mailed by Emirates 24|7 despite several reminders.

According to Dr Fisher, each floor of the tower will take only six days to assemble around the core once permission is granted and the concrete structures are in place. Thus, the 80 floors will be completed in mere 480 days.

Dubai is already home to the 310-metre Cayan Tower, the world's tallest tower featuring a 90-degree twist, in Dubai Marina. It was build at the cost of over Dh1 billion.

The tower has been designed with swimming pools, gardens and even lifts for cars to park outside their apartments.

In a statement issued to this website in March 2011, the developer had said that it is keen to put the project back on track in Dubai with plans to unveil similar towers across the Gulf countries.

“The Dynamic Tower in Dubai is on hold. Of course, Dr David Fisher and our team would be delighted to have the tower in Dubai on track,” the company had said.

However, the company had till then not secured funding for its Dubai project. Besides, it had not sold any apartment despite getting “many requests from all over the world.”

The 420-metre building's apartments would spin a full 360 degrees, at voice command, around a central column by means of power-generating wind turbines.

The first 20 floors will be for retail space, the next 15 for a hotel, the next 35 floors will have residential apartments and the top 10 floors will have luxury villa-style apartments.

The company has announced plans to build one in Moscow as well and other cities include London, Milan, Paris, Rome, New York and Miami.

According to Daily Mail, each of the Dynamic Towers are designed to be self-sustaining and can generate electricity from wind and solar power. Up to 79 wind turbines will be fitted to each floor to generate enough energy to fuel the building's electricity.

Fisher also claimed that the buildings would be able to identify changes in climate and temperature and regulate energy through the building's surface.

Being an “intelligent” building, it will also be able to manage the internal temperature of rooms automatically - making it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, he maintained.

If Dubai finishes this tower before the world expo 2020 (possibly) this tower will be a true landmark.

Over the past 5-1/2 years several of these so-called "revolving towers" have been announced for various parts of the world. So far, none has actually been built. There's no particular reason to be any more optimistic about this one than the others.

Maybe it was more difficult to built those towers as they thought?

Proposed Rotating Tower Planned for Dubai in Time for Expo

Plans to resurrect the rotating Dynamic Tower designed by architecture firm Dynamic Group are back in action, with the architects stating 2020 as the date for completion, according to WhatsOn magazine.

If built, the tower will be the world’s first skyscraper consisting of separate rotating floors that are attached to a central column, housing residential units.

Proposed back in 2008 by architect David Fisher, the tower is planned to be 388 meters tall, which would make it one of the tallest buildings in Dubai – although several taller buildings are already under construction.

The rotation of the structure will be controlled by the residents, who would be able to adjust the rotating speed and direction of the apartment through voice activation technology.

The development would also generate its own energy through 79 wind turbines placed between each floor and solar paneling covering the roof on each level of the tower. The surplus energy from the turbines and solar panels is planned to produce enough electricity to power five other similarly sized buildings.

The cost still remains at Dh 1.2 billion (about $327 million) with plans for the tower to be completed by Expo 2020. Because of the visionary nature of the design, many are still skeptical of its eventual construction.

Dubai Will Have the World's First Rotating Skyscraper by 2020

By 2020, Dubai—the futuristic city in the United Arab Emirates—could be home to an 80-story rotating skyscraper, called the "Dynamic Tower," proposed in 2008 by Israeli-Italian architect David Fisher. Each individual apartment in the tower will will be able to rotate 360 degrees so that the building's shape is constantly shifting.

The residents of these $30 million homes will have control of their own units. Through voice activated commands, they'll be able to adjust the speed, and tell the unit to start or stop rotating. They could program their home to move with the sun.

And while the price tag are hefty, residents won't have to pay for electricity. With a two-foot gap between each floor, wind turbines will power the building and even be able to provide additional power for neighbors. (By 2020, the United Arab Emirates wants seven percent of its electricity to come from renewable resources).

The skyscraper will also be pre-fabricated, meaning that each individual unit will be built off site and then attached to the stationary core. The water pipes inside the core will connect to pipes in the rotating apartment units.

"I think these buildings make people think everything is possible in life," Fisher said in this Youtube video by Your Discovery Science.

Editor's Note: The rotating tower has been proposed, canceled, and proposed again in the past decade. For now, architects say that the construction is back on, but only time will tell.
