The company is in touch with NY developers and they are planning a third rotating tower for Manhattan and likely other places too. “Our intention is to build the third Rotating Skyscraper in New York.” I think Germany too. I wonder what they'll look like in reality.

The plumbing question is a good one.

"The Dynamic Tower in Dubai will be the first skyscraper to be entirely constructed in a factory from prefabricated parts, it will require only 600 people in the assembly facility and 80 technicians on the construction site instead of 2,000 workers on a similar size traditional construction site, Construction is scheduled to be completed by 2010."

This might mean construction will progress quickly.

One thing. How the hell are those wind turbines going to work when they're going to be between the floors and hence, not really exposed to wind.

I think the technology is not sophisticated enough to do this, there will be multiple plumbing leaks throughout the tower unless the water and waste could be teleported. Wouldn't the residents experience vertigo when their apartment would rotate, or is the rotation slow enough to prevent this, otherwise the concept is quite unique. Perhaps the bathrooms and kitchens would all be contained in the core so the plumbing problem would be solved. I can't really see the advantage of the car elevator unless there were several of them, the the core would be so huge. Isn't there already a smaller tower like 16 floors in Brazil that does this, except the plumbing fixtures are all in the core??

It's nothing, really, original! I don't mean that comment as a criticism. It's, just, sort of a Chicago Spire knockoff.

What a remarkable project! And it's planned for a really prominent location next to Emirates Towers on Sheikh Zayed Road. Really worth watching what will happen there in the next months and years . And let's see if this really is the prototype for many buildings worldwide - it would be a surprise to me, if cost and energy consumption won't become a problem issue soon.

And I wonder about one thing: on one hand it's said, that the residents on each floor will have the possibility to turn as they like, but on the other hand, most renders show a pattern that continues all over the floors - doesn't this indicate, that the individual voice recognition devices won't work, as long as a central control system arranges the floors?

It seems that if the residents are allowed to turn as they like, the tower's appearance will be similar to this ALL THE TIME!!!

lots of the floors have 8 apartments each, right? i wonder who'd control the rotation for those -- either they'll be adjusted from a central point or there'll be a huge fight for the remote control whenever the sun sets.

and to those who don't get the car-in-the-apartment thing, well, if you owned the kind of car rich people own in Dubai, you'd want it close to you at all times. and if it's right there in the apartment you can use it to impress your dinner guests, get up at 2AM to admire or kiss it, etc.

100%. To make it look like anything resembling some form all the inhabitants will need to coordinate their efforts with some kind of rotation conductor which seems like a very hard thing to do, and I don't think people who pay millions for their appartments will be willing to bother... unless the building will have "presets" and specific times when the building will change its form into something other than a stack of dominos.

The top 10 floors will be used for luxury ‘Villa’ style apartments". I see that the elavatorshaft is only for the top apartments. I think the construction method for the core will be like "Guangzhou TV Tower | 610m | 2001ft | U/C " also a fast craper.

"Rotating Tower" project

in Moscow

Corporation MIRAX GROUP is to realize in Moscow a unique project Rotating Tower where each floor will rotate around of the central core of the building, irrespective of other floors. The corporation has signed a corresponding agreement with architect David Fisher who owns the patent for the project concept. The volume of investments into the tower construction is going to exceed $400 million.

The agreement between MIRAX GROUP and president of Dynamic Architecture David Fisher was signed on July 12, this year. At the beginning of August, the initial payment was made, however, the partners do not want to disclose the cost of the contract. According to the contract, MIRAX GROUP has received exclusive rights for realization of the Rotating Tower concept in the territories of Moscow and St.-Petersburg.

The project is now in the stage of coordination, but it is already known that the total area of the tower will make almost 130 thousand sq. m., and it will have over 60 floors: there will be offices and retail premises on the ground floors while other areas will be for apartments.

According to Chairman of the MIRAX GROUP Board of Directors Sergey Polonsky, the brightest feature of the building will be rotation of most floors around the central core, irrespective of the movement of other floors. Thus, floors will not be identical, which will allow the building to change the form constantly. Another characteristic feature of the building will be the system of connection of pipelines: all engineering systems of the central core will be connected to the rotating parts of floors, which will allow to use water, electricity, heating and the sewerage in the apartments in a habitual mode. The method of construction will be also unique: the central core will be poured in-place, and the floors will be made section by section at a factory and fastened to the core when assembled, with all MEP systems and, probably, even furniture. "After initial estimates, this method will allow us to reduce the time of construction minimum to 30 %, and besides, to essentially lower the site pollution during construction", - adds project head Vladimir Antimonov.

"Now we are negotiating at once several land areas within the limits of the third transport ring, in one of which we are going to realize this project,” - Sergey Polonsky says. By his estimate, the construction working costs of the rotating part of the tower will reach $4 thousand for a square meter, and the total amount of investments into the project will exceed $400 million. The beginning of construction is planned for the end of 2008, and the commissioning of the tower into operation – for the first half of 2011.
