These are isolated instances, and 'development' will not stop on this count alone. There are similar instances happening in other cities say in Bangalore when the KRV (Kannada Rakshana Vedike) activists go on rampage.

Most channels/papers were painting with heroism of DYFI men! Also there are many complaints abt same group of men who created issues for local people awa pedestrians in that area with their rash driving/inhuman behavior. As per the media police did simply nothing. So that might be natural reaction.

Time to sit up
The incident at kowdiar is not the only reason for the alarm bells to be ringing. The developing areas of kazhakkootam is one area of concern where the rule of the land doesnt seem to exist.Gang warfare and extortion from the residents seems to be a way of life for the goons.Even the employees of the Technopark have fallen victim to these attackers.Extortion from land developers and lorry owners who work in these projects have been a happy hunting ground for these organised criminals who hold sway in this area. This is one area in the capital city region where the bomb culture flourishes under the nose of the police. There seems to be no will power on the side of the police or the government to take a strong action against the perpetuators of these crime. If firm and fast action is not taken it will be the development activities of this area that will be hit for sure. The alarm bells are ringing for some to take notice.

Nice to see we have so many birds of ill omen circling the city!
Now for some constructive and immediately feasible solutions. As I said, there is a long way from armchair activism that a lot of people practise and pragmatic solutions that take into account socio-political realities. We can all wish for step changes but must learn to plan for incremental ones.

From Laws to Lawlessness
All of us have to obey the laws of the land whether we agree to them or not.
And surely there are venues to challenge those laws which we feel are not right or an infringement of our own. But most of all no induvidual has the right to take the law into their own hands and act or is anyone above the law. This is when vigilanties creep up to settle their own personal scores. But then again this is a time when even nations do not try to settle disputes over a table but rattle sabres at each other before behaving as being part of a civilisation ? Lets hope there is more peace in the New Year! |

Thanks for this new thread. We can now vent some of our frustrations at the way the democracy works in this wonderful nation and how the dirty politicians have destroyed the very fabric of social life and are taking unnecessary advantage of the poverty and helplessness of the village people to meet their political ends. It is well said that " Politics is the last resort of a scoundrel"
Abraham Licoln defined democracy as rule by the people , for the people and of the people. As a wise man put it recently now it is "demo crazy" and it can well be defined as the rule to Buy the people, Off the people and Far from people cheers!!! Titled 'Annam,' the festival is aimed at drumming up public support in favour of a resistance movement against the entry of corporates into the food and agriculture sectors. Besides, it aims at popularizing the concept of good food and importance of traditional food. The visitors will get an opportunity to savour Ambalapuzha palpayasam, Ramaserry Iddli, Guruvayur papadam, Marayoor jaggery, Kozhikode halva, 108 food items made from jack fruit and 27 from tapioca.
Besides, Aranmulasadya comprising 64 items and Travancoresadya comprising 27 items will be presented at the festival. Traditional markets offering traditional dishes will be recreated at the venue of the festival, being organized by the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA). Over 250 stalls will be put up for the festival. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan is scheduled to inaugurate the festival on December 27. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. We should be implementing the supreme court directive to restructure the police force. Well we are the first to do things in India and why not we be the first to implement such an innovative idea .. that of putting the police force under an autonomous body and separating it into investigative and operational wings. The investigative group may be further trained by bodies such as CBI and the operational wing by ..may be army??

Come together for a cause
It brings much cheer to see that the peroorkada hospital is finally getting a makeover.A territial hospital catering to the suburban Trivandrum, it was suffering from many maladies diring the last few years. With a number of departments including surgery available, the hospital has a potential for development into a full fledged general hospital with internship facility from the medical colleges in the state capital region. That can ensure the availabilty of interns for manning the department OPs without shortages. And if we take the financial provisions in their full face value, a decent work can be done with this project .It is for the administrators of this project to see that the works are completed within a definite time frame without cost overruns.Time and cost over runs has been the bane of every project launched in the capital city region bringing loss to the exchequer and denying benifit to the common man.A reasonable time of 16 months has to be set for the completion of the project from planning to commissioning with a penalty clause for delays from the part of the executors. An alternative will be to give a turnkey project to a strong professional company well versed in the design, construction and commissioning of similar projects.A tendering process which splits the work into subcontracts will lead to delays and corruption at diferent levels thereby denying the citizens the qualty they are eligible for.The project managers have to ensure that all the required materials and equipments are made available before the projects are completed for commissioning. And ensure the proper staff pattern is followed without disturbing the existing staff.
Infact this hospital can become a real model hospital in all senses with a automated system of hospital and patient management involving the combined strength of the private and public sector. As a person working in the hospital management software domain in the UAE, I feel we can surely provide a model for proper health management with respect to this project .I am welcoming any person who hails from Trivandrum and who would like to get involved in this on honorary basis to get in touch with us .Your skills in any discipline of the sector can be a contributory factor to this cause.Lets come together for this project in our own way. |

A clarification
It is entirely a personal decision to involve in a thread like this. This thread seeks to go beyond the realms of building a apartment block. This seeks to bring a soul to a project that will touch the very ordinary citizens of our city without the glitz and glamour associated with high rises and technopolises.I have put this thread in with a view to generate some interest in such projects from our forumers as a means of paying back to the city that has bought me up.Even though I am staying far away from the city of my birth,I am not removed from the sights ,smells and feel of the city, and I feel its my duty to give back something for the city. This is certainly not a forum of compulsion but it can always be a forum of compassion.

Sunil - Threads are based on priority not on personal decisions alone. You may have noticed that we have created threads only for mega projects like Vizhinjam, Technopark and Technocity and for tall building projects, the latter because this is after all, "Skyscraper City". If you feel healthcare projects need special mention, we can create a "Healthcare" thread, just like those for "Educational and Research Institutions".
The other point is that when a thread is created, we should also anticipate sufficient activity in the form of pictures and news updates. I do not foresee either for a small project like the upgradation of the Peroorkada Hospital. Mods, please take note. Thanks!

- Nice to see someone wanting to make a change first-hand, maybe you should get in touch with the Trivandrum Development Front, they are thinking along similar lines as well.
