Lol, it's not going to work. All the BC discussion is on skyscraperpage.

Oh right, ahh... that's why AndrewJM3D thinks I only comment on Toronto buildings... I see where all that rage is coming from now, hehe...

For once the tower actually makes at least a passing reference to the podium [passing being the operative word here, but still]. The podium, in general, is looking a bit clumsy but no final judgment can be made off that particular render. Like most condos, this is strictly filler, but it's not offensive by any means. Unless the podium's execution bombs, which could happen.

I used to think so as well, but if you look at how it will be built next to TIFF and I forget the name of the condo going up on the other condo of the block all have large podiums. So in that aspect this podium scale wise will work out well. Hopefully they use an interesting material on it. I'm not sure that the street it's on warrents retail but perhaps a restaurant/bar would work well.

That's it? I just checked it out myself and it seems to be a rather... sparse discussion. Most SSP activity seems to be from Alberta.

There is nothing selective about it. I am responding to your post 121 which was responding to MY post:

You don't like when people attack you here, so maybe you should start controlling your own responses. If you dish it out, it comes back to you.

Right... but I figured personal attacks must be ok, since certain people get away with it all the time.

Well you figured wrong. Try giving out less attitude and you might get better responses, because it is getting boring for everyone else.

Well you're definitely sending mixed messages when you turn a blind eye to so many other juicy tidbits... here's a very small sample:

In response to a "that's not spandrel, it's a shadowbox":

There's dozens more, but whatever... if you don't respond to such posts, then I will - in kind. I'm guessing your next response will be "let's change the subject", even though you're the one who brought it up, cuz that's how it works around here...

Then I'll say it, let's change the subject

Will there be any connection at level or underground from Cinema to Festival?

To end the spandrel argument we are both wrong. This is a spandrel.

There are four or five accepted and cognate meanings of spandrel in architectural and art history, mostly relating to the space between a curved figure and a rectangular boundary - such as the space between the curve of an arch and a rectilinear bounding moulding.

So what do people think the material on the podium is going to be?

It looks almost like a brown version of what ever is that black portion on the Lightbox is. I'm not sure what material it is, but its the one with the blue and sometimes red lighting effects on it. I'll go look for a pic...

By Jasonzed in the Festival Tower thread

That black bit on the left of the podium. Any ideas what that is?

That's desperate, lol. Obviously we were talking about spandrel vs shadow-boxes in the context of modern highrise construction...
