And I doubt a 76,000 seater would be more significant incentive for football in Brasilia than a 40,000 seater, for example. |

A lot of Brazilians seem not to understand, yet, that host cities chosen by FIFA have and shouldn't have had nothing to do with popularity of local soccer's teams. By choosing 12 host cities, FIFA was not endorsing or rewarding cities with strong teams or passionate supporters with fancy stadia.

That's definetly not a question of FIFA to be endorsing or rewarding cities or clubs. The money is not coming from FIFA. I just don't understand why to build a "40.000 seater super-modern US$ 200 million stadium" in a city where 90% of the sport fans support clubs from other cities (mostly from Rio or São Paulo).
Local (and national) budget should be provided to these cities to develop local clubs, support athletes, build a small stadium for the Lower Leagues. If you start building the house by it's roof, it will never be a good house. Look Portugal now, after Euro 2004... A bunch of oversized stadiums, and local authorities trying to sell them for any money. |

They need to come up with a good design for the new Mane Garrincha National Stadium before the end of this year.

The dismantling works have started for the old Mane Garrincha Stadium have begun.
![]() And here is the same design for the new national Stadium, although its circular shape is more appropriate for an athletics track stadium than a football-only stadium.

Well ever since Niemeyer first started sketching out grand civic places perfect goemetries have been the M.O. of Brazillian modern Architecture, especially in Niemeyer heavy cities like Brasilia. So I am not to suprised the roof and bowl don't match up. Sure is a pretty model.

Can't you see it? Only the roof has a circular shape. The stadium itself is going to be a "football-only"

In the mid-70s, Brasilia should have built a larget and better stadium that what it is now. The new design should have been a more 70s design. The rest of the stadiums stands should have been temporary so they can be dismantled and the whole stadium can be converted into a football-only stadium when need be. And it looks like the stadium will not have an exterior facade.

Brasilia never demolished anything except for that unfinished 14-storey highrise. The old Mane Garrincha Stadium is about to become Number 2 as it undergoes a Soccer City-style transformation. Has Brasilia ever demolished any other buildings? Also, will the existing upper tier be incorporated into the new stadium or will the entire upper tier be built from scratch?

It is the same üpgrade" they did in the soccer city, so it will be a complete new stadium almost.
