No updates on the stadium's reconstruction in several months...

The most recent update depicted only the stadium's upper tier remained standing (all of the stadium's lower tier was dismantled). Construction can start on the new stands soon.

GMP guided the brazilian architect, who built the original one.

This stadium is so over-sized for the city. They should make half of it temporary. This is actually being discussed.

The inside render look quite wide, they could fit the pitch in sideways.

I can't understand why every brasilian stadium has got an useless distance between pitch and stands.

As a brazilian, I neither.

Most Brazilian stadiums were built between the 1950 and 1970 decades. I do not know if there was an "Olympic mania '... (?)

I'm not an engineer or architect, but i have theorized that stadiums with more distant stands have a greater horizontal space to grow.

I mean, at that time, it was cheaper to make a stadium grow sideways than up (Needed less advanced structures). It's a way to make large capacity stadiums with less money.

Brazilian things...

But with the new National Stadium, this is probably due to the part of old stands conservation, as shown in the photos. A oval tier, the remains of a stadium with running track.

They should demolish and rebuild everything from scratch. The old stadium had no architectural or emotional significance. There is no reason to keep pieces of it.

An important update: the construction company responsible for the works said that the remaining bit of the stands WILL be demolished because of the costs associated with its adequation. Even better, it'll be IMPLODED, and in this very month!

The Brasília National Stadium will be 100% new and awesome!!

So the original Mane Garrincha Stadium will be deceased altogether after this month?
