Tomorrow I'm leaving for Shanghai. I will spend some 5 days in the city as I will mostly live in Hangzhou but I'll try to partly realize my dream, which is to take pictures of all Shanghai metro stations.

Not sure how floor signs help more so than overhead signs, and its not like its difficult to change lines.

And also does Shanghai metro charge by distance or flat fare?

Distance, as you can see in the picture below. It shows the different fares of various stations if travelling from Longyang Rd Stn.

By distance. And another major point: there are no tickets for month, week or year. You have to pay for every ride only. Sometimes it turns out to be rather costly. You can however have a smart card with an account on it but still every time you pass, you,pay for each trip separately. I don't think it's fair.

I think if you pay using the smart card you get a small percentage discount as well as a one yuan transfer discount.

I believe it's a 10% discount for all fares after 70RMB paid in a given month. And yes, there is a 1RMB discount for transferring to a bus (so the bus fare is 1RMB rather than 2RMB for non-distance based bus fares).

In which month of 2012 shall Shanghai Metro Line 11 Branch be extended from Anting to Suzhou?

^That's Waihuanlu station, right? I was very familiar with that station when I first visited Shanghai 6 years ago, as my friend lived very close to there.

EDIT: No, the last picture is Lianhua Road - I should know, as that's my stop when I take the Metro!

Those are very retro looking stations, remind me of the 1990s.

In Shanghai now there is a one-day ticket, valid within 24 hours on all lines of metro since the first use of it. Costs only 18 RMB, very convenient. Got used to it already.

I bought one day ticket when I was in Shanghai in July 2011.

The design of the one day ticket is different from those in 2010, the year when the World Expo was held.

For the one day ticket that I bought in 2011, the ticket still features the China National Pavilion of the World Expo, but the character (mascot) is no longer Haibao.

Not surprising, considering that's when they were built.

Aha, I actually really miss those simple, clean and sometimes plain stations. Not the modern ones with ads every meter.

I thought it was cheaper to buy the Shanghai Public Transportation Card. I was there for 6 days back in July, and I'm not too sure if the staff were being nice or anything, but they'd mysteriously add 10 Yuan to it for a total of 30 Yuan despite the fact that I only gave 20 Yuan.
