The physical sizes are hard to adjust, they need better signal system to facilitate higher frequencies.

That's right, headways even in rush hour in Sanghai are still far from being satisfactory.

Getting back to topic on the rolling stock, I'd like to order it. How many types of rail rolling stock run in Shanghai?

Line 1 I counted 3 types
Line 2 - 2
Line 3 - 1
Line 4 - 1
Line 5 - 1
Line 6 - 2
Line 7 - 1
Line 8 - 2
Line 9 - 2?
Line 10 - 1
Line 11 - ?
Line 13 - 1
Line 22 - ?
Zhangjiang tram - 1?
MagLev - 1.

Total: 21.

Line 6 133% over capacity. I believe it. If I have to go somewhere along this line I just take a taxi.

Maglev has 2 types of rolling stock, I believe. German built and Chinese built.

Is there a chance to increase a number of cars per train or stations can't be extended?

They could up the frequency as a temporary measure. It is currently 2 min 30 sec to 5 min between every train in the section between Jufeng Road to Gaoqing Road during rush hours. Its even worse outside of that section of the line during off peak periods with trains coming only every 12 min. Thats so ridiculous for a rapid transit line, light metro or not. If they brought the train frequency down to every 90 sec capacity would be almost doubled. Apparently the line uses THALES SelTrac CTBC and is capable of running 40 trains per hour.

I'd say frequencies on almost all the lines are bad. Higher frequencies would be a cheaper solution to increase capacity of the system instead of building more lines, although this is necessary equally.

Supply of rolling stock is tight. While you are waiting for rolling stock delivery you might as well be constructing new lines that are needed anyway.

Thats one thing that I hate about the protectionism of the Chinese rail-car market. Its been more than 5 years since Line 6 opened and it has only been able to amass about 30 sets to use. No doubt its because it almost impossible to place a rolling stock order on the handful of rolling stock plants in China when your also trying acquire rolling stock for 3 other new lines in your own system, while fighting literally every provincial capital and the cities in between that have been placing for rolling stock orders in batches of 40 trains. Meanwhile CNR and CSR are too busy impressing the international market and building trains for other metro systems. I'm pretty sure Japan, South Korea, Germany, France etc. would be happy to build a few more subway trains for China again. If only China lets them.

The southern stretch of Line 11 must be opening soon - you can see the entrance to Line 11 on the interchange tunnel between Line 1 and 9 at Xujiahui now, so it must be just about ready.

On wiki it says,
  • May 28, 1993 - The first section of the line (Line 1), from Xujiahui to Shanghai South Railway Station (formerly known as Xinlonghua), opens.
  • April 10, 1995 - The entire original line (Line 1), from Shanghai Railway Station to Jinjiang Park, opens.
That may help clearing the doubt.
Sorry, to raise this old question, but is the first date accurate? Is that true that on May 28, 1993 the metro started working with passengers? Apart from that, I didn't find any other evidence.
