Thanks. Is there a city map with the projection of the line? As I can guess, it will leave Honqiao for western suburbs of Big Shanghai?

Dixiaditie, thanks!

I wonder how far would be the terminus from the city center. That should be some 60-70 kms.

I think Dishui Hu (lake) at the end of line 16 is farther away from Renmin Guangchang (People's Square) than Dongfang Lvzhou (Oriental Land) will be. I cannot confirm now, as I'm not on the computer. IIRC there are 90 km in a straight line between Dishui Hu and Huaqiao.

Yes to Line 4 but that is a medium term plan don't expect it to start construction until at least 2020.

You mean suzhou line 4 will not start construction before 2020?

Suzhou line 4 is under test now, but it doesn't reach the Jiangsu/Shanghai border.

Now I've done the measurements, I found Dongfang Lvzhou station will be 46 km in a straight line from People's Square. But that is still 10 km closer than Dishui Hu.

I guess those coaches for Zhujiajiao from next to the stadium will disappear once that extension opens.

Posted about it 4 months ago. Line 4 (Second picture solid blue line) is already complete and undergoing testing, opening in 2017. It is proposed that Suzhou Line 4 and Shanghai Line 17 both be further extended and meet in the middle at Fenhuzhen. That corridor is relativity lightly populated so i don't think this will happen in the short term. The Kunshan corridor (Line S1) which is getting ready for construction will be the first to connect the two metros.

SHM Line 11 will be connected to SZM Line S1. S1 will start construction this year is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.

In addition SHM Line 17 and SZM Line 4 will meet halfway between Shanghai and Suzhou in the south.

When could we reasonably expect the two metros to be connected if the current schedule holds up?

"Late 2020" according to the above post.

That would de facto be a "Kunshan metro" between Suzhou and Shanghai metros, and a horribly inefficient way of getting from Shanghai to Suzhou (travelling to today's endpoint of 11 is far enough), though nothing compared to the possible Shanghai line 17-Suzhou line 4.

The prospective roundtrip Suzhou line 1 - Shanghai lines 11-20-17 - Suzhou line 4 back would take all day.

Hi guys,

In the thread dedicated to Shenzhen Saiho has posted a master plan for SZ metro development with a mind-boggling figure of 1142 km. Does that mean that Shenzhen will surpass Shanghai in terms of its rail system size? Or is Shanghai gonna go even farther?

Shanghai is planning to have 1100 km of metro by 2025 (This includes the Jiading-Minhang, Chongming, and airport express suburban lines, 942 km without them). And then at least 100 km more of metro, as well as many more of suburban rail. I'll count them or not depending on what rolling stock they are set to use, the Jinshan line gets excluded from the metro length because it runs on CRH trainsets.

I posted a plan way back about 950km of subway for Shanghai by 2025. The plan I posted for Shenzhen is 1142 km by 2030. So chances are good Shanghai will be ahead regardless. It could be a tight race.

Is the light blue the express line to connect the airports?

Yes.

Still think they should also extend the Maglev underground via Lijiazui, People's Square, somewhere on the Ring Line 4 (Zhongshan Park, perhaps?) to Hongqiao.
