It looks stupid. That giant wind turbine isn't going to work much and the shape and form are boring. Interesting cladding though, and I like the bridges/balconies...

The base is also abysmal. WTF is the point of sitting such a tall building on such an ugly block of a base building? I prefer buildings to rise from the ground, not to rise from ugly-ass and egotisitical pedestals.

There might be another neighbouring tower planed for the plot on the back, with conjoined podium.

I agree about the base. Iconic buildings like this, the Burj, and Nakheel Tower should be centerpeices with beautiful expansive bases, not just sitting on the side of the road on some big ass concrete garage.

The base remembers me on the trump tower in Lass Vegas... but I agree it's not the best looking solution but I like the rest of the tower...

The CTBUH board only recognizes buildings that have been officially announced by the developers. The Developers for this building has not yet officially announced it so it cannot be logs. There has been media announcements but that is different. It has to be recorded with CTBUH to be official. That being said, we will probably not get any new detail information about this project for awhile. It is the same status as the Dubai City Tower.
This does not mean it will not be built just in pending status (I think).

Like some of Dubai's new projects, it reminds me of something from Star Wars... looking forward to this one.

They should build the tower with a functioning wind turbine. Quite stupid to have it as decoration only.

Another ultra futuristic tower for Dubai, even with financial crisis there seems to be a new supertall project every week...687m isn't a bad height definetily, but in Dubai i guess it won't look like it's too tall, since there at least will be 2 other skyscrapers that will be higher than this one ...
i actually think this building might become something like the ESB for Dubai: it dominates the skyline, but it only sticks out little higher than the other highrises in the skyline...

IMO the design is very futuristic, almost too futuristic i'd say, but nothing's too futuristic for Dubai it seems... i find the top very interesting, i always thought that the round thing will be used as a wind turbine , but apparently it won't , which is IMO a little bit disappointing ...but even if it's "only" used as an ornament for the design, it still will look great and the idea of putting a restaurant in a capsule 600m over the earth is also great, the view surely will be fantastic...

Btw. I wanted to ask if the observation/restaurant deck (the capsule) will be the highest in Dubai since Burj Dubai's observation deck is "only" on 450m.
And also, i would like to know if the location of this building is close to the Nakheel Harbour Tower?, since it's location was moved, and I don't know much about Dubai's geography...

I hope this helps. If you want a map, let me know.

Anara is about 4.4 kilometres (2.75 miles) from Nakheel Tower.
Anara is 16.9 kilometres (10.5 miles) from the Burj Dubai.
Nakheel Tower is about 21.24 kilometres (13.2 miles) from the Burj Dubai.

Aha..good to know..so it'll be quite close to the Nakheel Tower, lets hope it won't overshadow this tower too much...
And yes, if you could post a map, it'd be nice..thx

Well, I think Burj Al Alam which is over 500 meters will have a restaurant and spa on the roof. It will be higher than Burj Dubai observation deck.
