x-posting from Gujarat discussions

As a Gujarati, I will obv favour growth in my state, but if things end up going the way I think they will, it will be a big shame for the Tirupur region of Tamil Nadu.

Tirupur entrepreneurs thinking of shifting base

Power situation continues to be grim in Tirupur

It already is a shame and we are fighting a losing battle here. But wait who the heck cares as long as we have double digit paper growth.

One another causality of power problem is law and order. Businesses are closing, people are out of jobs. Already you see rise in crime rate in western pockets of TN. I didn't do any study to prove that co-relation. But recent rising crimes and patterns in this area warrants one such study.

Ripple effect of power-cuts are not all about costs, GDP, and productivity. It's also getting to a point where morality is at stake. It shows up from crime rates to cremating bodies. Our che gov have no shame whatsoever in continuing to keep us this way

Tirupur to get Rs 17.5 crore police commissionerate

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday ordered creation of a separate police commissionerate for industrial city Tirupur at a cost of Rs 17.49 crore and ordered creation of 536 posts of new police personnel to man the unit.

An official release here said after Tirupur was upgraded as a Corporation and then as a new district but enough police stations were not created. Considering the ever-increasing population in Tirupur and the burgeoning traffic, the commissionerate is being created. As part of the measure, new traffic police stations and all-women police stations would be set up in addition to the existing ones. Apart from creating 536 new posts, 472 police personnel working under the control of the Tirupur District Superintendent of Police would be deputed for the Commissionerate.

With a view to implement the objective of the CM to upgrade all the police outposts in the State as full-fledged police stations, outposts in 12 places across TN would be upgraded at a cost of Rs 12.40 crore. The places the outposts are located at: H7 Sub urban hospital (Chennai), Jambunathapuram (Tiruchy), Devankudi (Tiruvarur), Government General Hospital (Erode), Thimmampettai (Vellore), Velayuthapattinam (Sivaganga), Seethaparappanallur (Tirunelveli), Cherakulam (Tuticorin), Basin Bridge (Chennai) Manamadurai, (Tiruchy Railway district) and Tenkasi. The CM also ordered creation of 355 new posts of police personnel to man these stations.

Further, Jayalalithaa also directed that five new traffic police stations should be created at Manapparai (Tiruchy), Dharapuram (Tirupur), Thirupathur (Vellore), Avaniyapuram (Madurai) and Chromepet (Chennai).

The CM has ordered creation of 80 posts for these stations and earmarked Rs 2.97 crore for the purpose.

I don't know why they are hurting themselves by doing it. Simply stop paying any kind of taxes as corporates to CG and che gov. That is the real protest

Knitwear units remain closed from dawn to dusk in Tirupur

Majority of apparel units and shops down shutters in protest against the prevailing power crisis

The dawn-to-dusk total closure of units observed by CPI (M), CPI, MDMK, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi and Forward Bloc in Tirupur knitwear cluster on Wednesday evoked tremendous response as almost 90 per cent of apparel units and 80 per cent of shops downed shutters.

The agitation, which got the support of leading trade unions like CITU, AITUC, INTUC, HMS, BMS, MLF and LPF, was called to protest the continuing power crisis and for demanding distribution of diesel at subsidised rates to farmers and industrialists to help them use generators at profitable rates during the load shedding hours.

The apparel production was almost paralysed and even the miniscule number of units which were kept open on the day could not operate in full swing as the workforce did not turn up in its optimal strength.

The loss in apparel production in the cluster due to the agitation was pegged at around Rs 55 crore.

Assumes office

DIG of Police N. K. Senthamarai Kannan, who assumed office as Special Officer for the ‘official formation of Tirupur City Police Commissionerate’, said that he would concentrate on selection of necessary office space for various units. “The city police under the post of a Commissioner in the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police will have a strength of around 1,200,” he said.

Coimbatore, June 19:

City-based real estate home decors company Purple Bay Foundation today made its foray into housing development projects at the nearby hosiery hub of Tirupur.

Stating that the most essential infrastructure needed for supporting the industry in Tirupur, which exported nearly Rs 12,500 crore garments annually, was to provide housing at affordable and reasonable cost, said Harikumar Nair, Chairman, Purple Bay, adding, the company would fill the gap by providing houses measuring 683 sq ft, built in 2.63 cents, costing Rs 12.99 lakh, at Karumapalayam.

In the first phase, the company will offer 68 independent houses, which will have two bedrooms, one living room, two bathrooms, one kitchen and verandah, with underground and overhead tanks, Nair said.

All the houses would be delivered by 2015 end, starting from November and the company would start offering twin-houses and independent houses, depending upon the demand, particularly from the industries, as it has nearly 23 acres of land in possession, he said.

COIMBATORE: Tirupur city is expected to have its own police commissioner from September 15, the birthday of former chief minister C N Annadurai. At present, the city police team is headed by an officer of the rank of SP (superintendent of police). As part of the new system, the city will get more police stations and investigation units. Officials said the new system would considerably reduce the response time of police.

Chief minister J Jayalalithaa ordered a separate police commissionerate for Tirupur at a cost of Rs17.49cr in October, 2012. Deputy inspector general of police N K Senthamarai Kannan was posted as special officer for official formation of Tirupur city police commissionerate in January 2013. "The formation of city police commissionerate has been completed at Sirupooluvapatti in Tirupur. The city police will get a minimum of 1,000 police personnel," said DIG Senthamarai Kannan.

Tirupur North, Anupparpalayam, 15.Velampalayam, North all women police station, Tirupur south, Tirupur Central, Tirupur rural police stations will come under the city police commissionerate. According to police source, two more police stations Veerapandi and all women police station (south) have been created in the city and the stations are ready for functioning. The source added that Tirupur north, south traffic police stations will function under the commissionerate. A new traffic police station will be created at Anupparpalayam.

As per the government instructions, a DIG rank officer will take charge as Tirupur city police commissioner. One deputy commissioner of police will also be appointed for the city. Three months ago, R Thirunavukarasu assumed duty as deputy commissioner of police, Tirupur city. He is assistant information officer for Tirupur city police commissionerate.

The district rural SP office has been operating from a rented building near Tirupur new bus stand for the last three years. Likewise, the city police commissionerate will function from a rented building to start with. Eventually, land will be acquired by the state government and a new building constructed to house the city police commissionerate and SP office.

According to a source, DIG Senthamarai Kannan and DCP Thirunavukarasu will be posted at Tirupur commissionerate as city police commissioner and DCP, law & order, crime and traffic respectively.
