Well, plans are progressing for the Yorkshire Chemicals sites ('The Works') which would link this area through to Clarence Dock. I guess the developers of Indigo Blu are working on the premise that there's an advantage to getting it built now and then allowing The Works to provide the infrastructure and linkage around it. Somebody has to be first!

It sounds as if the developers have taken, as Sir Humphrey Appleby might have said, a "brave decision".

In defence of it's location, it is in close walking distance of Crown Point Shopping Park, and Clarence Dock with all it's facilities, and it transport links directly onto Hunslet Road (and soon to J4 of the M621) are second to none.

yup, but Crown Point isn't your local corner shop, and its right on a main road next door to a brewery. Still looks funky though Proof is in the pudding in terms of attracting buyers.

There are plenty of flats round Regent Street with no local amenities - doesn't stop people from renting there!

well indeed, although the pleasant parade under Merchants House on North Street is but a short stroll, and then you're on to Vicar Lane / New Briggate in no time. Also Regent Street will have the massive lift from the Eastgate Quarter and whatever happens to Quarry Hill.

How far is Crown Point from the city centre, and is it a walkable (both in terms of distance and the route)?

I would say around 10 minutes depending on your walking speed obviously (for many it will be less). Certainly walkable though.

Yes its easily walkable - I used to walk from the bus station exactly on that route to just beyond Crown point every day for a couple of months - and now you have the added advantage of looking at Clarence dock and Bridgewater as you go.

Think we may have another project on hold with this one. Have passed the site over the last week or so, and looks like they've stopped everything on site. All locked up, no activity at all. I suppose the only other reason could be they have done the groundworks and are waiting for the heavy stuff to come on site, but certainly does not look that way.
I always thought this was a strange development to start at such a difficult economic time and out on such a limb away from the City Centre. |

When i walked past the site yesterday there were several people working on site, they were checking the capping on the foundation work, looked like the structure was ready to go up anytime.

I went past this about a week ago and there was definately an JCB working - so I think they are still working - for how long though - well who knows!

Passed this again today and there were 3 men removing the hoarding along one side and replacing it with that steel mesh fencing - maybe improving the access for deliveries? Anyway there was a large foundation visible but nothing else.

A good sign to see a crane there then. I'm suprised it's going ahead.
