Nice looks like they knocked down a lot of older stuff to build the new. Why did they dismantle the streetcars?

My fav aussie city. Reminds me of my city. Very nice contrast between old and new constructions.

Yes Brisbane is clean and very orderly - though sometimes I feel like I'm living in Disneyland - hence people often call it Brisneyland. The trains are on time, the streets are clean - all in all it can be pretty clinical and sometimes too nice/perfect. Like an aussie version of Singapore.

Emporium is a nice little boutique hotel near The Valley part of town. Its very new.

They have gone and buldozed much of what you would call 'gritty character' and replaced it with ultra-modern shopping and office buildings both in the city and inner suburbs. I think they are just realising now that old and gritty has character and people like it.

Being a local I haven’t stayed there, but you could try the Royal Albert Hotel, which is almost in the centre of the city. It is one of the older 8/9 level stone buildings that has been nicely renovated into a boutique hotel.

I think typical July would be about 20 to 25c during the day, between 8-12c at night.

It is getting to be a great mix. Some gems were lost along the way, but everything good is protected now. And we still have some dross that can go to make way for modern tallies. Brisbane has about 8 200metre+ buildings under construction, or approved and awaiting start at the moment. The tallest should be pushing 300 metres (980 feet).

The trams went in 1969. Brisbane has relatively narrow streets, and at that time the car was king and so the trams were scrapped. Many cities around the world did this at the same time. I wish they had retained 1 line in the inner city, there has been some talk about bringing them back in a limited fashion. I hope it will happen, the present city council is however a bit bus mad.

Great shots! Especially love the early 20th century office buildings.

Hmmm, I thought Brisbane was a dull city (beautiful but dull, something like Perth), but now I see I was wrong! I liked this mix of old and new architecture a lot! Furthermore, Brisbane seems to be a great place to live, it has a nice atmosphere!

Anyways, thanks for sharing these pics! They're very nice!
