Paulo Mendes da Rocha - Brutalism in Sao Paulo.

Pritzker Prize of 2006, Paulo Mendes da Rocha and his Brazilian Museum of Sculpture, built in 1988.

My video.

Mendes da Rocha is a 80 years old brazilian architect. He works a lot with brutalism and modern architecture.

This museum is located in a residential neighbourhood at Sao Paulo city.

What do you think about it?

Your video is nice, however I think Brutalism is a terrible legacy given to us by Europe, which is unfortunate because Europe has been the birthplace of so much beauty and innovation.

The buildings try to make use of space in a linear manner, disrupting your natural sense of esthetic in order to evoke an emotive response. Unfortunately, the only thing I feel when I look at a brutalist structure is revulsion. They're ugly, unimaginative, cheap structures.

I could not agree with you more. It is a sad chapter in our history indeed and it is still today a battle for the population of cities to get planners and architects to go past this historical mistake and start to build cities once again.
