Surprising to see such old arenas still standing after nearly 2000 years. Wonder what it must had looked liked filled with houses

Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Australia - capacity 52,500
many regard as the best stadium in the world for rugby union/rugby league matches because you are so close to the action and the atmosphere is amazing

It's far from beautiful... you've just posted a picture of your nearest stadium. It looks a mess.

People this is a beautiful stadium thread, and everyone posts random pictures of equally random stadiums. Please. Just decide 15 stadiums and make a poll.

The Amsterdam Arena is still impressive imo, but only from the outside

Close to the action? I've been to many a stadiums where players could just about be touched. Here, if you can actually get up out of the incredibly narrow rows, and go to the very front of the stand, you're still numerous metres from the field. The atmosphere is alright, nothing special. I won't even mention the pitch, it is equivocal to the stadium in Antigua as it really has only been good for one thing - beach cricket. The pitch has to be relaid often just so the players can actually play.

The pitch was relaid about 6 months ago, the first full relay since the redevelopment. It's an excellent surface now, it was poor before that though.

They had to relay the pitch in June and in November. They are just two late last year. The first two years of the stadium being opened were worse though, it had to be relaid each month because of sand injuring players knees and ankles.

Yes it used to be terrible when it first opened. It was only relaid in patches before, not a full job. It is like a carpet now though. Did you see any of the A-League matches after they did it?

I don't dispute that the surface is better now, but it is still far from great.

Agreed, Brisbane is very over-rated. You are still too far from the touchlines. The crowds are emotionless. You get more cheering at showing of a film at the local multiplex. The surface there is a complete joke considering that grass grows well in SE Qld 12 months of the year. You can grow a putting green quality lawn in Brisbane with little to no effort because it is always warm and it rains every other day.

They had a World Cup qualifier there last year and only got a crowd in the 30.000s. For a 'friendly' in Melbourne they got over 70,000.

Honestly do not know why the FFA bothers playing international matches outside of Melbourne. They are losing money.
