Is it official team-stadium? Or it's just for training purposes? How many people can fit into this strange looking structure...?

If its the 21st century, then please explain where most of the armrests and proper club and luxury suites are in the world?

You're talking about college(University) stadiums. Mostly filled with students. Why they chose benches? I have no idea. It appears to be a tradition thing, NOT a barbaric thing or a money thing. Seriously, UT has put over $350 million into its stadium the last decade, so please stop the money insinuations or the lack of modern amenity thoughts you might have. I'd put DKR or Sanford against any in the world as far as amenities go.

The small seats you're looking at are usually paid donations by season ticket holders.

Personnally I really like stadia with benches ...no point in having proper seats in a stadium...that's just inappropriate comfort. You don't need to have a nice chair to support your team! if you do so, then you'll have a better time at home in front of your TV... This "all-seater stadia" policy that emerged in the last decade everywhere without any popular standing places anymore is just killing the spirit of our stadiums...

I agree, I dont think stadiums need to be 100% seated and standing room does make for a better atmosphere. It just looks wierd how the seats seem to be in completely random places and not in any particular order. Also it explains how so many college stadiums are up around the 100,000 mark when some of them don't look all that big compared with other stadiuims such as MCG.

In Europe that's maybe because of this (39 people killed):

Terraces were one of the factors of the tragedy and contributed in several other disasters....

The police were another factor, therefore the police should be abolished to?

Maybe you don't know, but since these disasters, the laws/regulations about policing at stadiums (& stadiums crowds), have changed !

Just for the record, college stadiums with benches are still all seater.

The problem was never with the tracces but with the number of people on them. It can be as safe as other stands with chairs, you just have to limit the number of fans. Plus, you get much better atmosphere on the stadium.
Atlast, that is my opinion.

The Germans do terracing correctly. It's not terracing, it's how terracing is managed.

But they didn't just get rid of them. Reading the Taylor report (the interim report) is like reading an awful murder mystery novel, you start off with 10 suspects only to find out the murderer was a complete stranger who was never mentioned previously.

Yeah so. We still get on overcrowded trains that they wouldn't transport cattle in. We still stand at music concerts, and people mosh (shock horror). We still go into crowded night clubs where you can't move drunk. 21st century doesn't mean we get rif of tradition

Totally agree with this post.

I'd like to see stadiums with benches and terraces as well as normal seats. Diversity etc

None of this was anything to do with terracing. It was an inadequate stadium, policing was poor and trouble was always gonna kick off based on what happened in the 1984 final. Riots happened in all seater stadiums less you forget and they use the chairs as weapons

A crush would be worse in all seater stadium

This happened in an all seater stadium. Imagine a crush with chairs in the way.

Things like hillsboro happened because of poor safety

Exactly, they used to pack them in. In germany the ratio (i'm reliably informed) is 2:1. 2 standies to one sitter. Decent amounts of exits, enough crush barriers. adequate ticketing policies (in the olden days attendances were definately under reported).

Terraces give you freedom to move an express yourself with anonimity and friends.

I posted this videos on another thread

Yeah I heard that he later regretted the recommendation... I've also heard that clubs ignored a lot of his proposals (i haven't read it), like increasing ticket prices by inflation etc.

you know in France we still have terraces (or almost ) in many stands, (like in Marseille, Lens or St Etienne) and the French league is going to allow German-style-terracing for some new stadiums (Lens, Valenciennes etc) BUT the atmosphere is not better in these stadiums than at the Parc des Princes (all-seater: with unbreakable seats...), for example.

Marseille, Vélodrome :

St Etienne, G. Guichard :

Paris, Parc des Princes :

The problem in GB is that you are not allowed to do anything at all in your stadiums, AND due to the prices policy, there are no popular areas anymore (terraces or not) !!!
