P.S. Dorotheus monastery near Rybinsk. During construction of Rybinsk Reservoir Dorotheus monastery (and Mologa town) was engulfed water (1930s).

Unfortunately I don't know where to place these photos. It's Far East of Russian Empire, Asia (not even Siberia) but it is part of Russia and it is the European architecture (IHMO).

Its just amazing how much better the cities looked in the past. Modernism and the car has been a disaster as far as aesthetics and urbanism is concerned.

Pretty much everything shown in these pictures have been lost - either in fires, during ww2 or during equally devastating post-war developments. Ĺlesund luckily burned early enough to us being able to rebuilt it with pre-modernistic blocks.
