Englishman would not write "British Empire" when it comes to old pics of India.

The historical facts can't provoke somebody. But it can explain - why you can see Russian signs at the postcards and Russian inscriptions at the buildings. I don't think that all forumers knows this fact.

OK. Englishman would not write "British Empire" when it comes to old pics of Dublin.

It's ridiculous to pretend to be stupid.

Specially for Russian friends

Well, you can create special thread European Cities 1940 and to paste photos of Russian cities into it. But de-jure and de-facto, all Russian cities (except these in Kaliningrad Region) never been part of Third Reich. Only some large Russian cities were briefly occupied by German troops during WWII. That's why your analogy is lame.

If they want, they can to write it. What's wrong? The times of British Empire (as well as Russian Empire) gone many years, and Russia was never been English colony. Therefore, we can write as we want (especially if it's correct information).

Just ascertaining of fact. Do you want to claim that Kiev still was part of Polish Empire in 1900s?

1) It's offtopic in this thread.
2) These cities never was part of Third Reich or Germany. It was briefly occupied during the war. So, your inscriptions are wrong. It's not like if these cities were parts of Germany during +100 years.

Interesting facts about Białystok:

Ludwig Lazarus Zamenhof - the creator of Esperanto was born in the town of Białystok.

"In addition to the Yiddish-speaking Jewish majority, the population of Białystok was made up of Poles and Belarusians, with smaller groups of Russians, Germans, Lipka Tatars and others.

Zamenhof was saddened and frustrated by the many quarrels among these groups. He supposed that the main reason for the hate and prejudice lay in the mutual misunderstanding caused by the lack of one common language. If such a language existed, Zamenhof postulated, it could play the role of a neutral communication tool between people of different ethnic and linguistic backgrounds."

Esperanto society of Białystok founder Jakub Szapiro and Abraham Zbar

The thread indicates 1900 and back then, things were so different. So then it must be justified to name the places exactly as they were and leave out any form of 21 century nationalism that is so off topic.

Bratislava/Pressburg/Pozsony

In the end of 19th. and beginning of 20th century.

Bratislava at that time was the part of Hungarian kingdom, which was the part of Austro-hungarian monarchy. The population right before WWI was more than 80.000 inhabitants. After the war, Bratislava became the capital of Slovak part of new country of Czechoslovakia.

Jewish ghetto after the large fire in 1913.

"Napoleon tree" on the right. Napoleon was standing under that tree and watched Bratislava on the other bank of Danube. Same like Hitler in 1938.

From facebook page dedicated to old postcards and photographies of Bratislava

Why write 'Belostok, Russian Empire'? This is a provocation. I think that is enough to write 'Belostok'
