Vancouver stock exchange?
It's late in the night and I was bored and thinking out loud. What do you guys think about a Vancouver Stock Exchange ? Does Vancouver have the capacity to sustain a stock exchange ? I personally don't know about how to create a stock exchange, but having a stock exchange will surely attract investments. VSE could focus in on Asian investments or natural resources sector. I just checked a list of all American stock exchanges and there isn't one available in the west coast at all other than HedgeStreet in California.
I don't know... this could be something smart for Vancouver to do... ? |

In any case from what I've read the VSE was like an unregulated casino before it was merged.

Technically, there's only one stock exchange in Canada, which is the TSX. Pretty much all of the stock exchanges merged together and was then bought by the TSX. Montreal's stock exchange recently merged with the TSX as well.

in 1999, the vancouver stock exchanged merged with the alberta stock exchange to create the canadian venture exchange (CDNX).
in 2001 the CDNX was acquired by the toronto stock exchange which changed CDNX to TSX Venture. The VSX was a bit of a joke. I do not know if you all remember Murray Pezim.... I believe he was one of the most powerful men there. banned at one point for misrepresentation. |

Dude yeah the blackout in downtown is ridiculous. How could downtown Vancouver not have the infrastructure to avoid this disaster ? But then again, Toronto also had a blackout during 2005 :P Anyways, as for the Vancouver stock exchange... it's just my pipe dream which I know is somewhat unlikely. However, if anything, Vancouver must beat Alberta if Alberta is considering any stock exchange in the future :P Let's not let Calgary steal all the west coast financial thunder.
