Just read some brief info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCarra...tional_Airport

7 Philippine Airlines 70,389 Manila, Vancouver
8 Korean Airlines 55,140 Seoul-Incheon

That's cool.

It removes the need for me to land at a California airport (either SFO or LAX) if my sole intention is to just gamble at City Center

McCarran's $2.4 billion Terminal 3 receives first flights

By Tim O'Reiley
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

While waiting for her Virgin Atlantic Airways flight to London, Hazel Griffin of Oxford, England, rendered a distinctly British verdict on the difference between McCarran International Airport's old Terminal 2 and new Terminal 3. "They are poles apart," said Griffin. "It's chalk and cheese."

After five years of construction, the $2.4 billion T3 went into service Wednesday with the standard official speeches and platoon of showgirls, celebrity impersonators and stage performers. Virgin Atlantic and three other airlines took up residence. Another 11 international carriers will move in today.

Against the sometimes loud backdrop, Griffin played up her newfound celebrity as the T3's first departing traveler. "I'll always be the first person through the airport," she said jokingly. "Maybe they should put up a plaque for me."

Other passengers marveled at the difference between the cramped, four-gate international facility at Terminal 2, which was built more than two decades ago as a charter flight terminal, and T3's 14 gates, with seven for international use, as well as spacious new passport and customs facilities.

A bit random but is Ivanpah completely dead? I assume it is because of the economy.

Name Change For McCarren?

Convention authority staff to study airport name change

By Tim O'Reiley
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

Posted: Aug. 14, 2012 | 3:31 p.m.

After an unusually tart discussion Tuesday among board members, the Las Vegas convention authority staff was told to put together a cost-benefit analysis for changing the name of McCarran International Airport to Las Vegas International, and bring it back to the board next month.

At that point, board members might declare a preference on a rechristening, although it would have no practical impact because only the Clark County Commission can decide what to call the county-run airport.

The debate's fault line saw some municipal elected officials who sit on the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board pushing for a new name, while the two county commissioners on the board expressed no interest in a change.

"Do we want to request the airlines to spend millions of dollars to say something we already say?" said authority board member and Commissioner Tom Collins.

The McCarran logo and promotional materials already prominently feature Las Vegas. At least part of the cost of changing items such as signs and the mccarran.com website would fall on tenant airlines, which pay fees to cover operating costs and debt service.

Aviation experts largely agree the airport name for a city the size and prominence of Las Vegas matters only in a metro area with more than one airport, such as Houston or New York. Airline and independent booking websites are geared to the city, not the airport.

Southwest dominates the domestic share of traffic in the U.S. from LAS. Love the Virgin Atlantic plane.

What is the status of plans to extend the monorail at the airport?

Oh wow, Allegiant Air did actually acquire B757. I wonder why it is not being used here in the midwest on our Vegas direct connections.

The plans are fine. However, the project has basically no money to spend.

I know these images aren't taken at LAS but thought would be nice to share. If there is a dedicated Las Vegas | Nellis thread please let me know
