In future please post all self taken photos in the Urban Showcase section. We move them once, but if the same people continue to post them here we will have to start deleting threads. Thank you

how beautiful the city could be had it not been annexed by the soviet union. i'm sure the finns would not have let all those architectural gems and beautiful avenues to become what they are now. of course i've heard that the russian oil money has also reached viborg, but i reckon new tasteless shopping complexes have been built instead of full renovation of the old jewels.

It's a pity to see such a city in such a state. It could have been a very nice place.

As you also know Gamma-Hamster, Vyborg has been part of the Grand Duchy of Finland since 1809. The Grand Duchy, although part of Russia, had a great extent of autonomy and a very own identity.
When Finland became indepedent from Russia after the revolution, Vyborg automatically became part of this independent nation. It was not untill 1944 that Vyborg was finaly ceded to Russia, and became a true Russian city for the first time in its history.

Now it's time for Russia to polish it's Gems like they are doing with other Cities in Russia .I have always though that Russia is like a treasure that 's been hidden so deep that just waiting to burst out from the ground ...some of the parts in this town obviously have been restored ...however there's still alot to make this town to be at the level of it's european counterparts ( nice town btw )
