Downtown Milwaukee, as seen by Thor

Went walking around Milwaukee today. Man I'm tired. Took lot's and lots of photos. Here you go:

Marquette interchange. It's almost complete, underbudget and ahead of schedule.

6th Street Viaduct

choo-choo

The Amtrak station is new. There's an interior pic towards the end of the photos.

"Historic Third Ward", Milwaukee's upscale neighborhood.

Cool place. Interior pic later in the photos.

Continues next post.

Hoan Bridge. You'll see many more pics of it. Fun bridge to drive over, as there are some great views from it.

Who says Milwaukee doesn't have a castle? Well... no one. But we do!

U.S. law requires every city to have a building that looks exactly like this.

The Sun?

It's impossible to take a "bad" photo of this building. It's just too beautiful.

We'll get to that a bit later on.

Lincoln Memorial Drive. A very nice road.

Segways!

The "wings" move.

It's like "the Bean", except not that interesting.

Milwaukee has a State Park in front of it.

Told you.

What is this going to be?

This is that building I said we'd come back to.

University Club Tower

I tried riding it. It's just too horrible.

Note the different colors.

Cathedral Place.

Supposed to be good.

I have interior pics but it's an extremely dull cathedral.

Not that fake stuff.

I didn't go inside.

City hall is underneath that.

Chase Tower

Interior shot of Public Market.

Interior shot of Milwaukee Intermodal (Amtrak) Station

That's it, all done. Hope you've enjoyed. If I've posted too many pics, I apologize. If you want interior pics of the cathedral posted (despite the fact that they are terribly boring) just holler.

Over a hundred images? Leaves me speechless. This thread might use some editing, don't you think?

At least you could appreciate the effort he put into posting the pics.

Great thread

wow. you know. i really, really like the dense parts and the older parts of downtown. i'm not so crazy about the parts that are more spread out. i feel like some street shots look so urban and then some buildings just seem to have no street-level interaction at all. it reminds me a lot of the city i live in (only milwaukee's way older). i didn't know it was so spread out, though.

great thread!

Yes, of course. I do appreciate the effort. But this where the photographer in me speaks out, the sheer number of photographs here just doesn't seem to work cohesively as a set.

Yeah, I think I get what you're saying, then again I'm not a photographer. I did get rid of some of the photos that I thought didn't really add anything.

Thanks for the comments too!

In the words of a Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar "you become a director the moment you pick up a camera and try to narrate a story or a sensation". I'd like to add that we all bear a greater ethic responsibility, whenever we display our work in public, whether it means provoking a thought process or telling a cohesive story.

This a great take on Milwaukee's old architecture:

I think the thread as whole perfectly summarizes the symbolism of this city as Midwest's cultural rarity and a treasure that needs to be protected no matter what the cost is.
