INTERCONTINENTAL HOTELS GROUP’S PROPOSED CROWNE PLAZA SUKHUMVIT BANGKOK TO BECOME CHOICE HOTEL FOR BUSINESS TRAVELLERS

Crowne Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok to be InterContinental Hotels Group’s sixth addition to its Thailand’s Portfolio

Singapore, 25th August, 2003 – InterContinental Hotels Group today announced its plans to extend its leadership in luxurious accommodations to target the meetings market in Thailand with the development of Crowne Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok. The new build hotel will be opened in January 2006 and is owned by Grande Asset Development Co Ltd.

“With Bangkok as one of Asia’s key gateway cities and conference venues, the meetings market holds great potential and is a revenue generator for the hospitality industry in Thailand,” said Khun Pongphan Sampawakoop, Managing Director, Grande Asset Development Co Ltd. “Through our partnership with InterContinental Hotels Group, we can now leverage its depth of management experience, expertise, specialised resources and brand strength to deliver a compelling meetings product to capture a growing share of this market. As the place to meet, the proposed Crowne Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok is uniquely positioned with a suite of differentiated business offerings that meet the needs of both meeting planners as well as business travellers and convention participants.”

Khun Suradej Narula, Managing Director, Grande Asset Development Co Ltd, added, “As a hotel owner, our main priority is to drive profitability and increase room occupancy in our properties. With 10 million guests staying at InterContinental Hotels Group’s hotels per year, the group offers us a much expanded audience that we can target to drive returns to the hotel. In addition, our hotel can now benefit from InterContinental Hotels Group’s extensive global distribution network and pool of 18 million Priority Club Rewards members globally – one of the largest loyalty programmes in the hotel industry”.

A. Patrick Imbardelli, Managing Director, InterContinental Hotels Group Asia Pacific said, “We are delighted to have the privilege of partnering with the Narula family and Khun Pongpahm Sampawakoop. Both bring a wealth of experience in successful hotel developments in the country and will significantly contribute to ensure that the proposed Crowne Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok will become a choice brand with its unique business offerings specifically tailored to international business travellers.”

“We are very excited about the proposed Crowne Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok as this will be our sixth and latest addition to our brand portfolio in Thailand. This is a strong testament to our commitment to Thailand as we will continue to roll out our strategic growth plans in this key growth market. The InterContinental Hotels Group is indeed on the move in Asia Pacific, seizing opportunities to build value for our partners and to enhance our offerings to our valued customers,” he added.

The proposed Crowne Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok boasts 400 guest rooms and is strategically located in the heart of Bangkok’s retail and commercial district. It is conveniently situated close to Queen Sirikit Convention Centre, a popular venue for conferences in the city and is minutes away from the Bangkok Transit System (BTS). The proposed hotel will include premium restaurants, bars, banquet and conference facilities, as well as a health club and spa.

great great news.
it will add more density to the Sukhumvit skyline. it has a good location since it's very close to the Phrom Pong skytrain station and not too far from the National Convention Center.

Maybe there is one of these small billboards with details at the construction site.

I' looking forward to when they release the rendering... I could not find anything on their website yet.

Yes, as it's in front of the Sukhumvit Soi 27 surrounded by offices and shopping area.,

This 32-storey Tower will comprise 380-luxurious rooms, convention Center and the best Health & Spa in Sukhumvit.

Designed by Inter Architect, a High-profile company which also designed the famous "Abdulrahim Tower" located in Bangkok Financial Distric, This tower would be one of the landmark in Sukhumvit skyline.

The construction has already started, and will be officially opened by the end of 2005.

Rendering :

The hotel is situated on Sukhumvit 27, in the heart of Bangkok's business. It is the chain of the world's largest four-five star hotels in 100 countries worldwide classified into 5 brands : Crowne Plaza, Inter Continental, Holiday Inn, The Express and Star Bridge Inn. There are 380 five-star rooms featuring ballrooms, banquet and conference rooms as well as Health & Spa.The project starts in October 2003 and will be completed in 24 months. And in October 2005, Crowne Plaza will be available with exceptionally modern identity in the central of Sukhumvit.

shhhh top secret. hahaha

Yeah...I just can't believe it that these day, Sukhumvit seems to be more and MORE denser every time I'v turned my head to another side, when I'v turned back.....There!!....Another new tower rising up!!...

...Instead of Sathorn area, yes...I agree that some projects are rising in Sathorn and Silom area too, but not amazingly as "MANY" as Sukhumvit!!!

Very true.
the government has to do something about the maze of small sois between Asoke, Sukhumvit, Thong Lor and Petchburi. This 'box' does not have one four lane road in it but so many offices and houses are there. With so many new buildings the traffic will only get worse.

Yeh, if we are relying too much on the few big roads then people will have to travel a longer distance to get from point A to point B - which means more cars on the roads than it needs to be.. I suppose.

Though it's nice to see all these new projects. Bangkok is really expanding in the Sukhumvit direction!

What Sukhumwit needs is a traffic ban on the sub sois. Pedestrianise them and only people drive on the major sois and tannon!
