In order to prevent drifting away in a bitching contest. Here my favorite photo I took in Georgetown. I love the mood...

... and the European quarter in Brussels at night. That scene does not look like a film noir scene. Film noir scenes are made to look like that night shot

I don't think Brussels has the same impact on the world as does DC. DC definitely sets the precedent for many more countries. Although that is up for argument....

When people say DC doesn't have history, its so dumb. Georgetown started as Georgetown, Maryland. Its European history goes back to 1632

One would hope, but you would be surprised how many people think things
are "free" simply because they do not have to pay directly for them!

Maybe, but I think Brussels at least equals DC in the number of lobbyists who are usually a good indicator of where the music plays.

I GUESS NONE OF YOU KNOW YOUR HISTORY ON OUR COUNTRY!! THE NAME MARYLAND CAME FROM QUEEN MARY WHO RULED GREAT BRITIAN AT THE TIME OF THE COLOMBUS* EXPEDITIONS. OUR COUNTRY WAS FIRST RULED BY EUROPEANS UNTIL THE CIVIL WAR I BELIEVE. THAT'S WHY OUR CAPITAL TAKES AFTER THE EUROPEAN MONUMENTS. IT MAKES SENCE TO ME!!

Today Washington is hands down the most powerful city, at other times in history the title belonged to London, Istanbul, Rome. Nice pics, thanks for the tour.

He means the story of U.S. before the civil war between Americans and people who came from British (Europe).
If i am right, Americans with France against British...

Palermo is a much more beautiful capital than DC.
Miami is also a more beautiful capital than DC.
And whoever said DC was more beautiful than Rome or Paris needs to get their eyes examined.

I would agree that, judging by several of the photos, DC is the capital of the Fugly women. Very powerful

Miami isn't a capital city. The capital of Florida, where Miami is located, is Tallahassee.

Without a doubt one of the most powerfull but London still has it beat in my opinion.
Whoever said Brussels is an idiot, without Britain the EU would be a joke and I am still misunderstanding why the seat of the government and parliment qualifies a city as "powerfull" in my opinion the power of a city is based on the strength of it's economy; it's global influence and it's population (not just size of course).

London is an important world city, but come on, Brussels is at least as important nowadays. The EU is much more than just Britain, and I do not even deny with that that Britain is an important member, but its one among a list of important members and an even longer list of total members.

Power in the way as meant by the OP is more where powerful decisions are made, not so much if the municipality itself has such a huge power. Thats why Washington DC is considered so powerful, if you apply your own definitions it would not be powerful at all. Its all a matter of definition.

you´re right !

but f.e. bruxelles as town itself has no power.
if you would put away the EU from Bruxelles (just as an example) what would there be in Bruexelles ? nothing, it even wouldn´t be a Beta City
