#Completed: Fusion - 8st/res (Mackay)
Fusion was approved some time back, and is definently going ahead with over 50% of apartments presold. It's on a gem of a site right at the very northern tip of Nelson st, propping up in between Lanai, Rivage, the new Bluewater Lagoon and Pioneer River Promenade.
Only 28 apartments, but full to the brim with luxury, the buidling is comprised of:
Sorry for the poor quality of these images below. ![]() ![]() The previous home that was on this site was only recently demolished and removed, currently being occupied by cars of construction workers for neighbouring developments. Fingers crossed they get moving with it sooner rather than later.

Wow that looks amazing, I hope they don't cheap out in development in any way. I hate it when a developer changes something and makes it look worse. Mackay's developments all look great in the renders.

Having Rivage, Lanai and Fusion side by side, all overlooking Bluewater Lagoon is going to be fantastic. I particularly love the design of Fusion, with the glass section on the right and the circular holes in the roof. Do you know who the architects are for these projects are Red Nut - all three of them have the same kind of "vibe"
And can I just point out the Straw-necked Ibis in the site photo

Yes I thought you'd notice the bird ![]() Rivage was designed by Reddog Architects (wesite at http://www.reddogarchitects.com/) who are also responsible for the design of Leichardt on River which has a similar modern and sharp design. Not sure who designed Lanai or Fusion. I'm finding that even though Mackay currently has strict height and zoning restrictions (no more than 11 stories), the quality of these mid-rise developments is outstanding. Credit should be given to the Mackay Regional Council for green-lighting these high-quality blocks, and I hope they maintain the status quo into the future. The position of Fusion will mirror the North-West aspect of Rivage, creating a literal 'wall' of apartments, balconies and glass overlooking the lagoon. I snuck this picture at the Fusion sales office which I hope demonstrates.

Developers couldn't resist city's blue Pioneer River
August 12, 2008 THE DAILY MERCURY GEORGE Chambers and his partner Tony Battams have so much confidence in Mackay's future they are willing to bet $24million on the city. That is how much Mr Chambers and Mr Battams, directors of Brisbane-based firm Oke One, are stinking into Fusion Apartments, a new residential development at the Lagoon precinct on the Pioneer River. Construction on the eight-storey project on Nelson Street is due to start on August 25, and is slated to open in October next year. It will be the third residential development in the Lagoon precinct, following Lanai and Rivage. Fusion, which is aimed at owner-occupiers, will consist of 28 three-bedroom apartments. Prices start at $725,000 for a 135sq m apartment while the 293sq m penthouse with roof terrace will cost $2.2million. The developers, who predominantly build in Brisbane and whose architectural firm, Eko Architects, designed Fusion, said they were attracted to Mackay because of the mining boom and the area's natural appeal. It is their first project in the city. "Mackay will always be a place of interest because of its economic strength and natural attributes," Mr Battams said, adding the chance to build on the waterfront was too tempting to pass up. "We're interested in waterfront sites, and I think the Pioneer is only one of two blue-water rivers in Queensland," he said. "The site is only one of a couple of developable sites on that part of the Pioneer River." The developers said they had already recorded sales totalling $12.5million and they expected the project to be sold out before it was completed. Fusion's features include water views from all living, dining and kitchen areas, and balcony access from living areas. Most secondary bedrooms will have balcony access, with two-car spaces for each apartment and a three-car space for the penthouse. Fusion is now Under Construction. Missed out on taking a photo, but did get a peek as I drove by Nelson st a few weeks back. The basement has been dug, and looked as though the foundation pylons were about to be put into place.
No photos from me until about Christmas time now

I'm surprised how deep the hole is for Fusion. Maybe it seems that way being squeezed in next to Lanai and Rivage. Crane is hopefully only a few weeks/ months off.
![]() ![]() ![]() The site's proximity to the Pioneer River means the soil is quite damp, which is where the dewatering system comes in I imagine. I often see these in used on Gold Coast developments.

I do Mick, but would much prefer if you could upload them yourself. I've seen you do it in the Mackay photo thread - why not just use the same online account to host the images?
If it's too much of a burden, I'll PM you my email. BTW great news with the crane. What does it look like? |

Quote from the Daily Mercury's 'CBD Developments' story from Tuesday, April 14:
![]() Interest has been strong in the 28-unit block development, Fusion, in River Street with a display unit expected to be finished by May. Concrete pouring for the basement and lower floowrs started last month. A few streets north of Azucar, another development is pushing forward at “a million miles an hour”. Mike Althaus, who is working with the Fusion high-rise, at the river end of Nelson Street, said the wet season had knocked their schedule back by about a month, but construction had now caught up. He said before construction began, about 60 per cent of units were sold, with the remainder expected to sell once construction was finished. “We had the pre-sales up,” he said. “And we've got a list as long as our arm who are waiting to see us finished.” The 28-unit block is expected to have a display unit finished by May, with concrete pouring for the basement and lower floors started in late March. |

Also here's evidence of Fusion's crane, far distance to the right. Any ideas what sort of crane we're looking at here? The new Bluewater Quay is under construction in the foreground.

Fusion appears to be nearly done. A sale bonanza of about 6 premium apartments has erupted on www.realestate.com.au, with one of the 2-storey penthouses asking for $1.8 million. There's a few good photos, unfortunately none of them illustrate any external part of the building, except for the first two shots below featuring the eastern-wall...
Mick, is the crane still up on this one?? ![]() From L to R - Fusion, Lanai and Rivage ![]() Rear balcony, looking south. Lanai's balconies look fantastic. ![]()
