Northwestern outer suburbs of Paris : Cergy

Cergy is a commune in the northwestern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 27.8 km. (17.3 miles) from the center of Paris, in the "new town" of Cergy-Pontoise, created in the 1960s, of which it is the central and most populated commune.

This is the elevated pedestrian mail of Cergy Prefecture district.

Looks like a nice place to live, lots of pedestrian areas, and it's on the RER A which is a bonus I guess due to the frequency of service.

Thanks for the shots, Minato!

I have yet to see a bad-looking banlieue in Paris.

Ugly mall. Even worse than Centre Deux in St Etienne, I thought that was not possible.

Good grief! I'd hate to see what you'd say about suburban shopping centres in New Zealand and Australia then!

The shopping center will be extended and renovated before 2013. This extension of 35 000 m ² would be build on the actual car park for a cost of 310 million euro . This extension would allow to welcome new businesses such as Gap, Galleries Lafayette...The works should begun in 2010 for an opening in 2013.

The existing mall of 65 000 m ², designed by the french architect Claude Vasconi in the 70s, was renovated in the 90s.

Minato Ku, have you been in Pontoise, Cergy-le-Haut or Saint-Christophe districts? They are quite different from Cergy-Préfecture which was the first district of the new town to be built in the 70s.

I don't live far away from Cergy so I have photos of this former "New town".

No unfortunely I don't have the time but I know that these are quite different.
I wrote that it was only the pedestrian mail of Cergy Prefecture.

I don't see this part of Cergy Pontoise as the average for me it look like a center, I am sure that the average is made of sprawlly houses.

Hmmm, well, I won't say it's ugly because it's not. But it's not attractive either. I guess the best word I can use for it is "functional". It lacks inspiration and any thought to aesthetics, something which of cause is very different in central Paris.

Great to see the photos though as it's always nice to see parts of Paris that I haven't yet.

As for the mall, I agree that it is quite bland. I certainly wouldn't want to shop there (and yes, I have seen malls in Australia & NZ ;O) But the fact it will get a major overall is good news, though quite a long time to wait.
