Texas has a large stadium but the atmosphere sucks. It is pretty quiet for such a large stadium. Maybe this new enclosure of the endzone would help it.

A&M has the 40,000 students at every game doing all of those chants which creates a unique atmosphere.

Which game are you referring to? I thought Texas had only played Virginia Tech once and Texas lost in the 1995 Sugar Bowl in the Superdome. We played the Hoos (UVA) in Austin earlier that same year but won that one.

In any case, if your visit was before 1998, I wouldn't be surprised that that was your reaction. Mack Brown's arrival in 98 made a night to day difference in the culture and atmosphere before, during, and after games. Before 1998, half of the crowd wouldn't even be wearing orange and I would be very surprised if the stadium was full. It was so bad that one of the first things he did was instill the "Come Early, Be Loud, Stay Late, Wear Orange" mantra with the Longhorn faithful.

I still think there's room for improvement, but compared to back then it's light years ahead. I hope that the stadium expansion helps bottle some of that noise in too.

He's referring to VT vs A&M.

It will. The previous iteration was too vast to capture the noise. When UT eventually finishes the bowl it will be even better.

This is your benchmark - Volumes of students. Texas, OSU, Florida, UGA... By and large your larger football programs are your massive schools. Conversely, places like Georgia Tech are trying to compete with total enrollments under 20k. To say nothing of Rice, Wake Forest, etc.

When the team basically SUCKS for 3 quarters only to start playing in the 4th, that will affect the crowd. I've seen games at Lane where the crowd was uninspired and bored creating a terrible atmosphere for the game. Not to mention that Texas was mediocre in 07.

Lane Stadium is never quiet or uninspired when it counts

Not many teams are quiet and uninspired when it counts, you know you've got crazy fans when they have started pregaming at 9 am for an FCS team, anybody will make a lot of noise for a top 25 or big rival.

A Miami-Va Tech game. The Crowd was out of the game by the 2nd quarter. This game was in 2005 when Miami blew them out on their home field.

I think Penn State may very well have the best atmosphere. Their team hasn't been all that great, but they still bring 107,000 every game and are loud. Penn State has imo the best student section too. Beaver stadium as a whole is underrated.

I liked Austin and enjoyed attending a UT game, but I thought the crowd was lethargic.

Who tops this?

In game.

Before OSU.

Here's a good one against ND.

My issue with Kyle Field is poor attendance and the fans are a bit far from the action.

This isn't good.

I do like the yell leaders and songs.

If they were actually a good 12th man there wouldnt be any room for them to move down to because Kyle Field would be sold out. I dont know what the coach is thinking.

Alexandria-Fairfax County right on Route 1.

That I do agree with. They usually call the Texas crowd the wine and cheese crowd. They wear the colors and support the team. But they hardly stand unless something big happens. I think the problem was that they are too far back. Maybe that will change with the new renovations. I believe Tech fans noticed how different the crowd was this past year and it wasn't even finished.
