Hnedak Bobo Group is the architect. There have been many other proposals in the past for the Texaco Building and the vacant lot behind it, but they all fell through.

Last week, before the renderings were found, HAIF user brijonmang shared this information:

Speaking of BLVD Place...

Apache’s New 34-Story HQ in BLVD Place

Quote:
July 11, 2013

A development report from Hines includes this rendering of what appears to be the new Apache Corporation headquarters planned for mixed-use BLVD Place just north of the Galleria. The report names the wafer-like building “Project Alpha” and describes it as 34 stories and 750,000-sq.-ft. of office space with a fitness center and cafeteria. Currently, Apache is headquartered at Post Oak Central.

Here we go again:

Houston developer to add new tower to Energy Corridor

Quote:
Mac Haik Realty is planning his fourth office building at the intersection of Kirkwood and Interstate 10.

The Houston development firm said it will break ground next month on the building, Energy Tower IV, which will be located in the Energy Plaza development.

The new building will have 450,000 square feet in 17 stories. It will expand Energy contractor on the project, which is slated to open in late 2014. Steve Bryant and Brandon Poynter will lease the new building.

Looks like Houston is building surprisingly many urban-ish and dense developments. Do you have any stats over how much of the new builds that are detached suburban houses (which I tend to associate with Texas) and how much that are multistory buildings in a somewhat urban setting?

Houston proper is entering an LA-style densification cycle as land dries up for traditional housing development. Many new projects are multi-family, multi-story jobs. Outside Houston, suburbia and sprawl continues apace...

Meanwhile, home prices are soaring which is a good sign for condo developers and something new for Houston: NIMBYs. As these aggressive NIMBYs defy developers in upscale neighborhoods like Uptown (below), they are having to battle for sites and build larger on whatever they can get.

First Renders Surface For New Stream Essex International Tower

http://swamplot.com/tag/proposed-developments/

Quote:
A reader sends Swamplot what appears to be the first rendering of the Gensler-designed International Tower: What has been tentatively described as a 41-story, 750,000-sq.-ft. office building, [render clearly for larger, taller tower] developed by Stream Realty and Essex Commercial Properties, would go up on a Linbeck-owned block Downtown that now is a surface parking lot bound by Preston, Prairie, Milam, and Travis; it’s immediately south of Market Square Park and immediately west of where Hines has said it is considering building another residential highrise. The reader adds that the first 2 floors of the new tower would be devoted to retail and what appears to be a restaurant; construction could begin as early as next year.
According to Jones Lang LaSalle, this tower will likely be 50 stories and 950,000 sq. ft. as the render strongly suggests.

Not really. just the usual FAA restrictions about building higher than 2,000 ft.

There are rumors of a 102 story tower being planned which could reach 1,500 ft. depending on many factors.

Nice, I hope it gets built.

Is there an explanation why 2,000 ft?

downtown is about 7 miles away from Hobby Airport, and the flight path landing patterns takes planes directly over downtown.

I always thought it was funny when my Southwest flights from northern areas flew over he Continental building when they were out at Allen Pkwy and Waugh in the AG building... The planes would always make their sharp turn there to do final approach in to Hobby... It was like we were buzzing the Continental building.. LOL

TEMA DEVELOPMENT is planning to build a 42-story residential tower on that recently surveyed fenced-in lot right beside its Parklane condos on Hermann Dr., according to a couple of Swamplot readers who saw the Corgan-designed building presented at a Museum Park neighborhood association meeting this week. One reader describes the highrise:

"The building has a unique design that will twist as [i]t goes up, changing the viewpoint of the higher levels (towards downtown, I believe). They’re planning a 5-story parking garage with one level below grade. On top of the garage will be an amenities level, including a pool and clubhouse among other things. It’ll be connected to the tower via a skybridge. The tower will be bordered by Jackson St. (west), Hermann Dr. (south), and Ewing St. (north). A private drive will be built on the east side as the grand entrance of the building, which will include valet parking. Entrances to the parking garage will be off this private street with a secondary entrance off Jackson St. . . . I believe they’re working with the same landscape architects who worked on the Asia Society building. . . . Lastly, the units will be for lease and not for sale. They expect it to hold 550 residents. I don’t remember the exacty breakdown of units, but it’s something like this: 20-30 studios, 140 one-bedroom, 30 two-bedroom, and 10 three-bedroom."
