ALMERE | Carlton | 120m | 28 fl | Com

Didn't think there was a thread for this one yet. The city of Almere, the Netherlands, is currently constructing 3 new towers next to it's central train station, known together as L'Hermitage. The tallest will be known as Carlton, with 37.969 m² officespace and 900 underground parking spaces, and will function as a WTC. The other two towers of the project, Majestic and Martinez, will be 85 and 70 metres tall respectively.

Architect: Diederik Dam
Developer: Eurocommerce
Finished: 2009

from what i understand there'll be highrises built just north and northwest of the western most tower, at least as depicted by the bird's view picture (which i know, isn't really north/northwest) . Unfortunately no details on those yet. Originally the plan was also to build highrises just to the east of the area captured by that picture, but i think nimby's torpedoed that.

That's because it's one of the newest cities in NL. It's only there since 1970. Everything is pretty new, and it's the fastest growing city in NL. In about 25 years it should be connected with Amsterdam.

There are actually 33 floors, and there will be a spire, so Carlton (construction) wil be 141,6 metre Functional height is still 120 metre

Almere definitely belongs to the premier league of Europe's ugliest cities. Sorry to say.

But this tower almost looks decent, though I usually don't like glass boxes all that much.
