Stand near a BMA "Police" box sometime and watch them harass visitors for 2,000 - 10,000 baht each!

Scammed all day long is what tourists are telling friends and family back home.

Tourists trapped in Pat Pong Bar by Thugs-DOOR BLOCKED!

Clubs run by Thugs are trapping tourists!
This has been happening for years.
Thai Police drink free in these clubs.

Tourist Report below:

"We were ripped off in Pat Pong last night. We were told that cover was free and drinks were 100 baht. I had been to a show before and we paid a nominal fee and had to tip the girls heavily. This was different. My husband and I only stayed 10 minutes. The show was boring, so we decided to leave. We had bought 3 drinks (100 each). We expected to pay 300 since we had been there such a short time. The waitress came with a bill for 3200 baht. Ridiculous. The owner physically pushed me and then my husband when we refused to pay. Then, they blockaded the door. I have never had such a horrible experience!!!!!!!!!!

Bangkok's infamous scams have ruined the holidays of many, many visitors to Thailand and it is an important thing to be aware of beforehand if you want to avoid becoming yet another victim.

Foreigners are often defrauded on their trip to Thailand and Thai authorities are ignoring their plight. In fact, many Thai Authorities are directly benefitting from the scams.. including the Tourist Police.

Many that have been scammed are making reports on the internet, helping the victims and fighting corruption. See the below links.

DIVERTING DONATIONS TO THE POOR

Tourist making donations would be sad to learn the money gets diverted into the pockets of gangsters. BMA Police control every centimeter of these footpaths....
Hungry or poor Thai people cannot go beg for a meal.
This is valuable 'turf'.

Dozens of severely disfigured, crippled and diseased Cambodians are imported into Thailand and put on the streets to collect donations for the poor.
Every morning at 6AM they are positioned all over Bangkok.
Now, a walk down the footpath has turned into a muesum of horrors.

Can Thai Tourism survive in the Internet Age?

Seems the TAT doesn't understand how to survive in the internet age.
They won't return calls or even answer emails.

CUSTOMERS are now in charge, can be heard around the globe and have a huge impact, in an instant.
People can now find each other anywhere and coalesce around you or AGAINST you.
The TAT and guidebooks can no longer control the message.
Crime against your customers can't be covered up.

My message to the Thais Tourism Industry?
You can make money without doing evil.

The TAT better take a good look at why it's customers are starting these websites:

Thai Visa wont allow links to other forums to be posted so i will copy a couple of posts i hope thats ok , but if you have time to sign up its very easy and they have a very big membership and it would be beneficial to all , you are missing a huge audience .

great what you are doing

Ethics instructor scams school.

In light of the above posts, I found this extreemly disturbing.

A letter to the Bangkok Post:

"Teaching standards

I teach at a government university somewhere in Thailand. I live in a small soi across from the university. It is lined with internet and copier shops. Here ladies beg for money from their foreign acquaintances using e-mail, often assisted by the owners of these shops. Many more wile away their young lives playing video games.

As I walk back and forth to work, from time to time, I stop to chat with some shop owners. One such person is a Dutchman who lives with a Thai lady. He was telling me about his wife. ''She's a teacher at the university. She never stays there. She leaves the house, signs in at the university, and is home in five minutes.''

I know, first-hand, that her strategy is followed by many government university teachers.

Then one day, the two of them were together talking to me. The Dutchman said to his wife, ''Tell him how you sign-in and get home in five minutes.'' ''Oh yes,'' she said, smiling and laughing. ''I never stay at the school. I just sign-in and come home. It only takes five minutes.''

I asked her what she taught. And she replied, ''I teach Ethics.''

Who said less tourists is a bad thing for Thailand anyway?
For sure it creates quite a few jobs, but it's mainly low paid jobs anyway.

Tourism come with a lot of hidden costs as well, such as usage of infrastructure, consumption of energy, water and other natural resources.
Many of them also behave like they are visiting a fun park where they believe they can do whatever they feel like.

The number of fat-bellied men walking around with girls half their age on Sukhumvit is astounding and is nothing less than pure pollution. If it is possible to prevent them from coming back with a few scams, that would be great, but I'm sure it takes quite a bit more than that to keep them away.

Thailand is now a middle-income country and should target sectors of higher value than tourism.

CENTRAL WORLD MALL TOURIST MAFIA

2 years ago, I sent emails to the Central World Customers Relations and Management.
NO REPLY!

image hosted on flickr

Tourist Mafia has full time scammers posted around the Central World Mall.
These scammers are there all day every day.
They intercept and attempt to defraud every tourist they meet.
I see them chatting with the Central World SECURITY GUARDS and DOORMAN
Why are they still there 2 years after I sent emails to the Central World Mall Management?

don't believe everything you read in this thread, yes scams do happen in Bangkok, maybe even more than in some other cities. . but just with a little common seance there is no problems! people are not agressive, you will not get mugged..

if you are stupid, people will fool you all over the world. . its not something special to Bangkok . .

Is mostly the annoyance and also that the possible visit would be a impulsive on-the-spot decision and not really a planned touristic trip or for the go-go bars. I've got a "When are you coming to BKK" invitation from someone I knew from long, that I'm finding difficult not to honor.

Does Thailand deserve your hard earned tourist dollars I ask?
The way they treat tourists is despicable.

It's not just me.
Thousands are now reporting their experiences on the internet.

http://www.bangkokscams.com/scams-in-bangkok/2.html

For every report you read hear, there are at least a thousand more.
The TAT and guidebooks can't cover this up any longer.
Thais need to get serious about this situation.
I would never recommend a novice traveler come to Thailand.
Even the Tourist Police are scamming visitors now.(according to a TAT representative)
