yes... look at the panelling that is level with the grill section about a third of the way up. it doesn't look right

Brittannia Hotels have taken over the former Ramada Jarvis Windmill Hotel in Seacroft at the A64 / A6120 junction therefore meaning all Ramada Jarvis hotels in the Leeds area which were at risk when that chain went into administration last year (with other former Ramada Jarvis hotels including the Parkway by Golden Acre Park on the A660, between Shipley and Bingley on the A650 and Wetherby on the A58 all becoming Mercure Hotels last year) have gone into new ownership. http://www.britanniahotels.com/hotel...s-north/rooms/

Good to see this hotel has been saved and hopefully will get some much needed TLC

No don't think it has - thanks for posting.
Certainly a vast improvement in streetscape compared with what it is now http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=leed...,8.98,,1,-7.32
Also helps hide the more ugly Leeds Met tower behind to the left. Should get some pedestrian activity on what is mostly a car dominated road at present too.

The view from Millennium Square will be much better too: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=leed...2,1.59,,0,0.99

Presume this is to be clad in Portland Stone as with the other new hotel nearby?

Looks good to me - but it really needs to be Portland Stone and not yet more plastic cladding. The black cladding on the upper floors of the building does not bode well.

The Banner signs have just been taken down from the Double Tree this morning, so presumably some proper permanent signs will be put up soon.

There's an illuminated DoubleTree sign up on the west side of the hotel already.

Portland Way (not Portland Crescent) hotel development formally approved a few days ago...

Does this deserve its own thread?

I thought it had its own thread somewhere? If not, it certainly does!

Just thought I would mention that last month I spent a very enjoyable day at The Queens Hotel. I did think prior to my visit that I would find it a bit uninspiring due to having a usual preference for boutique hotels. This was not to be the case, the staff were warm and welcoming and every room was clean and tidy. Okay, some of the public rooms do look a little bit tired at first glance, but the place does contain that special feel and atmosphere that other new hotels don't have. My only disappointment on my visit was that I couldn't find the rooftop garden, despite my best attempts and even making direct enquires no rooftop garden could be located. Oh well, must be an urban myth.

There is an outdoor balcony at Queens Hotel. Could it be that perhaps?

I've stayed in the Queens several times and it's easily my favourite hotel in Leeds. Much better in my opinion than the Malmaison or the Met. There's a good attention to detail, and unlike the Malmaison which feels contrived and fake with it's confused art nouveau styling, the Queens feels genuine. The breakfasts are also better than any other I've had in Leeds. And the views are pretty good as well:

I don't think the is a rooftop garden, at least not one accessible by the average guest or visitor. The top floor is dedicated to suits, so maybe they have their own roof garden.

Malmaison (who have a hotel in Leeds) and Hotel du Vin (who have hotels in Harrogate and York) are to be sold into new ownership after their parent company MWB Group fell into administration. http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2...el-du-vin-sold

Hope all hotels attract new ownership as their Leeds hotel at least has a rather attractive and distinctive appearance and I always thought it was a popular hotel myself although as the Guardian article says the administration was as a result of the parent company building up debts.

Construction is to begin on Leeds newest five star hotel near the newly opened arena in May of this year later than the previously mooted start of the third quarter of 2012.

Previously known as the Portland Crescent Hotel, the scheme was redesigned by Dexter Moren architects for the Hilton Brand in 2012 to bring it up to five star standards, and now includes a rooftop bar and dedicated passenger lift to ferry drinkers, and lovers of a good view, straight there. In addition to this the hotel will contain 206 bedrooms, and stand at a height of 45.7 metres making it just tall enough to prick the Leeds skyline.

Development of the scheme is being driven, in part, by the proximity of the project to Leeds Arena that is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors for major events and concerts. A glimpse of the transformational impact that a major indoor venue can have on an area of a city can be seen from the experience in Glasgow where the SECC has led to a number of associated developments in effect creating a self contained cluster of hotels, retail space, and so on.

The £32 million scheme is being developed by GB Group Holdings who are working under contract to Hilton Worldwide, with funding provided in part by the Co-operative Bank who have been expanding their property investments in the north of England and positioning for a British economic recovery. Keeping things in house, construction work itself will be carried out by GB Building Solutions, the construction arm of the GB Group.

A bit meh.

Should have been taller with bigger windows considering its in a gateway position. Still, its decent enough.
