You used before any group of people is the first step towards generalisation in a negative context.

You cannot deny that, just read the several recent news in DLM in Englan and Holland related to muslims
I understand your concern but in a globalising world there are bound to be foreign influences in architecture, just take skyscrapers in Europe, they are not traditionally European but they are springing up everywhere, sometimes you just have to accept the change and not see it as something threatening but just part of a global trend. (I'm just as irritated by Saudi funded mosques springing up across my country but it would be hypocritical to oppose them while embracing skyscrapers springing up like mushrooms across Istanbul)

Yes, but the person who opened this thread is not that sort of a person who would try to use pictures of buildings to make a political statement. This thread has no more ulterior motive than the church thread in the MENA skybar as far as I am concerned.

I apologize, I was just taken back by your animostic reaction to this thread.

I see that each mosque has different styles by region.
Balkans, Turkey and Turkish diaspora: Cylindirical minaret with cone top including sherrefes, half globe dome. (Hagia Sophia)
France: Boxy design inspirated from Northern African mosques. (Paris central mosque)
England: Minarets and domes inspirated from Haram Mosque in Mecca. (London central mosque)
Former Soviet Union: Onion style dome inspirated from St. Peter's Basillica. Tulip-look Minaret tops inspirated from Iran-Central Asia. (Great Kazan mosque)

Same as Christians are banned from praying in the Hagia Sophia by the Turkish government. Just imagine if some Ethiopian invaders had captured Mecca in the 15th century, turned the grand mosque there into a Christian church, then turned it into a museum in the 1930s but still prevented Muslims from praying in it. Then you can imagine how the Greeks and the entire Orthodox world feel.

There is also a Turkish style (South of Russia, Crimea) and a various styles similar to the same styles of Russian Orthodox Churches only with Mosque features.
