Portugal signs participation contract for Shanghai Expo

April 21, 2009

Quote:
Portugal has signed a participation contract for the Shanghai Expo 2010, local media reported on Monday.

The contract was signed by Rolando Borge Martins, president of the Expo Lisbon Park Group, and concurrently general commissioner for Portugal's participation in the expo.

The Portuguese pavilion will be located at the privileged zone in Europe Square with a floor space of 6,000 square meters and a capacity for an audience of 1,200.

The expo, scheduled for May 1, 2010 to Oct. 3, 2010, is one of the biggest international events in China after the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

About 200 countries and organizations have signed contracts to participate in the expo, which is expected to attract some 70 million visitors.

Mexico to send kite show to 2010 Shanghai Expo

www.chinaview.cn 2009-04-21

Quote:
MEXICO CITY, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Mexico will send giant, brightly-colored kites, called papalotes, to the 2010 Shanghai World Expo to promote investment, tourism and trade, organizers said Monday.

During the Expo, Mexico's pavilion will be a display of the past, present and future of the nation's major cities.

The "glimpse of the past" section will show Mexico's pre-Hispanic, Colonial-era and 19th century buildings on three giant screens. The "glimpse of the present" will show the present reality of the nation's major cities. The "vision of the future" will use interactive tables to show the nation's main sustainable development projects.

In the third space, the kites will play an essential role acting as a symbol of progress and a link between Mexico and China, where kites have a deep cultural significance.

Mexico will also host a restaurant serving haute cuisine versions of traditional Mexican dishes and a shop selling traditional handicrafts.

Website touts HK's 'pavilion of infinity'
2 May 2009
South China Morning Post

The website for the Hong Kong pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010 was launched yesterday, offering the public a first glimpse of how Hong Kong will be showcased to the world.

The launch coincides with the one-year countdown to the start of expo, which will run from May 1 until October 31, 2010. The website will also keep the public updated on Hong Kong's preparations for and participation in the expo, and provide another avenue for netizens around the world to learn more about "Asia's world city".

The pavilion's theme is "Hong Kong - A city with unlimited potential". The pavilion will focus on Hong Kong's achievements in light of its limited land resources, highlighting its infrastructure, transport network, information and technology networks, cultural diversity and sustainable development.

The "pavilion of infinity" was the winning design out of 80 entries in a competition organised by the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau and the Architectural Services Department, and sponsored by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects.
