G8 is a group of industrialized nations : USA, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada and Russia

or we can nicely call it a rich club.

What will it do to China ? I dunno.

I think the reason Yello said he hopes China will never join it probably because he does not want to see China to put in Russia's position like today, being threatened of getting kicked out.

Either way, China still has quite a long way off before thinking about joining or not. What China needs to focus now is economic development.

Green powerhouse is the key to Expo home of the future

06/09/2008

Visitors to the Shanghai 2010 World Expo will be able to get a hands-on experience with "green technology" and walk through a house of the future that features the latest in energy-saving design.

The preview came yesterday during a city news conference at which scientists discussed technologies that will be used in Expo design and construction.

A Shanghai-designed concept house reflecting the most advanced energy-saving technology will begin construction in the Expo zone this month and be completed within the next year.

The Shanghai Eco-Home will display the energy and carbon emissions the house saved by using solar energy and other modern technology, said Wang Wei of the Shanghai Research Institute of Building Sciences, which is the main developer of the home.

The home will be built mainly with material processed from urban solid waste. Its furniture and appliances will also be environmentally friendly and human-centered, such as a bed that can monitor blood pressure and heart beat and robots that do housework.

Visitors will also have a chance to make bricks from waste products and take them back home as souvenirs.

In addition to the Eco-Home, scientists also discussed the use of solar energy, indoor and outdoor air cooling technology and lighting for the Expo.

"LED technology, or light emitting diodes, will be used for landscape lighting, indoor and outdoor signage and traffic direction while protecting people's eyesight and avoiding light pollution in the expo zone," said Hao Luoxi of Tongji University and the Expo's chief LED designer. "Exhibition centers and squares will have their own lighting design.

"And all the LED systems will be suitable for further use after the Expo," he added.

Translated via Google Translate, which explains the weirdness of the article.

Anyway-- the Danish pavilion will be designed by Bjarke Ingels (BIG) and will include the world famous Little Mermaid of Copenhagen.

In two years, the little mermaid will be moved to Shanghai. The Danish government want her to show up at the World EXPO2010.

The famous lady under the plan will be included in Denmark's booth at the World Exhibition. It is clear after the Crown Frederik on Wednesday revealed that it will be architect firm Bjarke Ingels Group which will build up the Danish section of the exhibition, writes Berlingske Tidende.

At the heart of the stand, a basin with water from Copenhagen's port to be. The idea is that visitors will be able to swim in the water and in the middle she should sit on its stone - the little Mermaid.

It is up to the Copenhagen city authorities to approve the relocation of the famous statue. However, according to news agency Ritzau is Copenhagen mayor Ritt Bjerregaard in favour of the idea.

-- The Danish pavilion will bring a significant mark on the World Expo as an outstanding showcase for Danish solutions to climate and energy, "says Michael Dithmer, Minister of Økonomi-og Erhvervsministeriet to the news agency Ritzau.

But don't worry. When EXPO2010 is over, she will return to her regular spot at Langelinie.

Expo River Rides May Be Free

2008-9-12 | NEWSPAPER EDITION

TICKET holders for the Shanghai 2010 World Expo may be able to get free ferry rides across the Huangpu River at seven downtown docks that are now being renovated for the event.

Around 100 million yuan (US$14.6 million) will also be invested in buying 22 new passenger vessels to serve Expo visitors. The free-service plan, now being considered by ferry operators, would cover three cross-river ferries within the Expo zone.

Should there be any temporary structures in this expo?

BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group). They also designed the "Ren building" for the Expo (never built though of course) and a bunch of cool stuff in Copenhagen.

Expo road work in fast lane

2008-9-20

NINETEEN of 25 Pudong road reconstruction and development projects associated with the Shanghai 2010 World Expo have begun, and the others will be kicked off by the beginning of next year, the Standing Committee of the Pudong New Area People's Congress said yesterday.

Pudong has brought its investment in the 96-kilometer road projects to about 40.8 billion yuan (US$5.97 billion) from the planning budget of 11.3 billion yuan.

The rise in expenditures was caused by inflation, which affected labor and construction material costs, and an increase in compensation to relocated households.

Nearly all of the families and 88 percent of the companies involved in the road reconstruction and development program have signed contracts with the government to make way for the Expo.

Major road development projects that include reconstruction of the Inner and Middle Ring Roads and Pudong Avenue have begun.

Meanwhile, Pudong New Area government has simplified its approval procedures to speed construction. The government abolished 210 administrative charges to promote its service and improve efficiency.

In other Expo developments, Slovenia will use its pavilion at the Shanghai 2010 World Expo to demonstrate how it integrates its wide range of people and cultures, an official from the central European nation said yesterday.

Slovenia shares a border with Croatia, Hungary, Austria and Italy, and many people from those countries visit or live in Slovenia, noted Sasa Layic, the country's commissioner general for the World Expo.

Solvenia's pavilion will be themed "integration of diversity," playing up the country's scenery. Slovenia is known for its forests, mountains and plains, and with proper management, these elements make for a beautiful country, Layic said.

I don't see any images at all. The only thing I see is some kind of login page in Chinese. I don't know how to sign up as a member because I don't understand any words.
