Chicago then and now - 2003 vs 2008

Pictures taken from John Hancock on Oct 3, 2003 vs Aug 2, 2008. You could see how much Chicago has changed in the past five years.

The most dramatic change, of course, is the rise of the Trump Tower; Also notice the upper left corner with new tall residential buildings in the streeterville and lakeshore east (including Aqua and the vertical expansion of the Blue Cross-Blue Shield Tower). Also, in the loop, the Heritage (2005) was still U/C in the 2003 picture.
2003

2008

Did you notice how empty the south loop was in the 2003 picture? Now OMP and several other buildings have filled that area.

The explosion of developments of the Streeterville and near east. Notice the whole area along the river is filled up now. Also, the Streeter (2007) near the bottom left blocked part of the view.
2003

2008

Here is the loop and river north. Notice that Hyatt center (2005; Near Sears Tower), the U/C building (2009, 353 North Clark) and River North Marriott Suites (2008; in front of 353 North Clark). And how can we ignore the on hold project of the Waterview right beside the United HQ.
2003

2008

300 North Lasalle (2009). Also notice 55 East Erie, still U/C in 2003 picture.
2003

2008

Say something if you are interested and want to see more. hehe..

Near the bottom of the picture by the Bloomingdale building (900 N Michigan) is 30 West Oak (2007) and The Elysian (U/C 2008). Is it already behind schedule?

Fantastic shots. Streeterville, Lakeshore East, and the South Loop have seen the most dramatic changes.

Looking great. Chicago does seem to do everything 20 floors taller than we do.

These pictures are amazing. Chicago, in real life, really does appear as dense as in does in The Dark Knight.

In the mean time, here is a little teaser.

2003, not too long before the suntimes was demolished:

2008, poor River Plaze (1977) was stripped off its 30 years of the unobstructed loop view.

Gosh I am lazy. I know many people here do not overlap with skyscraperpage, but I am mostly updating my pictures there: same thread there. If you'd like, visit that page.. I am going to sears tower either today or tomorrow for more pictures.

hehe.. John Hancock is to the east of downtown Chicago. Taking pictures there in the afternoon (hence facing sunset) wasn't a good idea at all....

South Loop

Pictures speak for the development in the area. Buildings coming out like bamboo shoots.

I loved this thread. The change in the South Loop alone is very impressive and only going to get better.
