Mulloor is situated arnd 1 km away from Mukkola Junction. Its on the Mukkola-Poovar Road. The Map below shows the other road as Vizhinjam-Poovar but its actually Vizhinjam-Balaramapuram Road.

  • Port area should be declared as SEZ.
  • If global tendering is required, the IFC is ready to do so by January 2011.
  • EIA report also submitted.

Is it an error mentioning about 2044, is it logical to have so long interval between phases.

Also, if this is to be executed with government investment, then a change in ruling party can $(rew the development by blocking or reducing the fund allocation.

I am pretty sure it is an error on the reporter's part. It could be that the term of this entire master plan is a significant period of time, not just the first phase.

It will be a combination of public and private investment. Once the Cabinet approves a project and its funding, a change of Government cannot affect it because the mechanism of Government itself is continuous. Moreover no party would dare to fiddle around with the biggest project in Kerala's history once it gets going.

You are welcome!

I think that TDF is working closely with VISL and should be getting some more details about the plan shortly. I do hope VISL makes the details public, as they should be, or else we will have to use the RTI route.

We can't depend on our "enlightened" local media for the facts, anyhow!

120 acres for Vizhinjam project
Source: http://www.centralchronicle.com/view...rticleID=48945
Quote:
Kerala Government Secretary of Ports Sanjeev Kaushik today said about 120 acres had been acquired for the Vizhinjam Harbour project as land acquisition for the venture had gathered momentum.
Inaugurating the second edition of 'Infracon 2010', being organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries, Kerala and the CREDAI, Mr Kaushik said the project had to face several 'hurdles' to reach this stage as there was an uproar when the land acquisition for the project was first mooted years ago.
A Special Economic Zone (SEZ) or industrial zone in the area has also been mooted, he added.
'' We do not have that much land. Land is a very major need of the hour for infrastructure development and we need to create ways and means for land banks,'' he noted.
Touching on the benefits of the project, Mr Kaushik said the project would have a draft of 18 to 22 metres and would not require dredging. '' We need to leverage this. It is next to shipping line, but is mired in controversy.'' he rued.
On the Coastal Highway Project which will run through the state, he said it would support the transport system and also was important from defence angle, especially after the Mumbai attack.
The cost of the project was estimated to be around Rs 5,000 crore, he said.
Infracon is a national level conference on infrastructure to address diverse issue relating to infrastructure development.
Cheers!!!

A small correction .The marking as vizhinjam- poovar road is actually vizhinjam -balaramapuram road .vzm poovar road is one parallel to costal area
