oh no, not again. now its the turn of Vizhinjam? after smart city, now vizhinjam? A project which is supposed to change the face of India can't be delayed again. leave the port based SEZ developmet. atleast the 1st phase of the port should be developed within next 3 years. it should't be prolonged again.

- There will be no delay. Background work of the port is already progressing. It will take at least 12 months for that to get completed, so this stay will have no bearing on that.

And let's not compare Vizhinjam to paper projects, Krishna. This has strong interest from all stakeholders, and the idea is to get it moving at the earliest. I guess the stay will finally be trashed after the new Chief Justice takes over next month.

Vizhinjam port project awaits environmental clearance
Source: gulftimes.com
Quote:
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Developers a port, being set up in Vizhinjam near Kerala’s famous tourist destination Kovalam, yesterday held talks with the state government, seeking environmental clearance for the project.
An official from the port minister’s office said officials from the Hyderabad-based Lanco Kondapalli Power Pvt Ltd, Malaysia’s Pembinaan Redzai Sdn Bhd and Lanco Infrastructure Ltd, part of the consortium that is building the project, participated in talks with the government.
The project has got all except the environmental clearance, said the official, who did not want to be identified. “The environmental clearance has to be taken by the companies themselves. For that, the government has to give certain papers and today we had talks about such things,” he added.
Once complete, the port would handle 4.1mn twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) per annum. Currently, the country’s 12 major ports together handle 4.61mn TEUs per annum.
The state government will invest Rs1.6bn to set up the basic infrastructure facilities like water, electricity, railways tracks and roads. A major advantage of Vizhinjam port will be that with a natural depth of 24m – among the deepest in the world – it will not require dredging
Cheers!!!

Today GOK decided to cancel the notification for acquiring 2500 acres of land regarding the vizhinjam project. It had reduced the land acquisition to nearly 250 acres.

- The 250 acres is for the road and rail access and the immediate infrastructure of the port. The rest will be acquired progressively after a more detailed study and survey.

Only 120 hectares to be acquired for port

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government on Wednesday issued orders making it clear that only 120 hectares need be acquired for developing infrastructure for the Vizhinjam International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT).

The District Collector will identify the necessary 120 hectares with the help of officials of the Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd. The order also mentions the cancellation of the earlier notification for acquiring 1088 hectares in the coastal villages of Thiruvananthapuram district.

The notification had caused a furore after it sparked off widespread protests locally. The State Government had also ordered an inquiry into how mistakes had crept into the report prepared by KITCO, on the basis of which the notification was issued.

www

So it is approx. 300 acres for infrastructure development...

I also feel that we have to end the controversies now and start the project and for that 300 acres for infrastructure may be sufficient. Once the project starts going, we can plan for the future after taking into confidence the local residents and work on a trasparent manner.

I hope that they are reclaiming land from the sea in a big way . They must explore the possibility of maximising the reclamation so that the land crunch can be reduced to a good extent if not avoided.

Also I hope that Mr Vijayakumar was serious when he was talking about starting on a private participation basis the work on the poovar shipyard project. Let us see how far they translate this into reality.

Cheers!!!

HC accepts the appeal of Zoom developers

HC accepts the appeal of Zoom developers and has ordered the Government to suspend the tender won by Lanco. I seriously believe someone wants to sabotage the entire project.

This sort of court interventions are expected in a major project such as Vizhinjam ....hope all these will be cleared in a six months period. These delays are normal ....I guess. At least these are not politically motivated issues!!

Disappointing news from the court..

Last time, the same Zoom developers won the contract but Centre didnot give clearance due to chinese partners.

Now Lanco with its partners have clearance from centre but court intervening in the matter.

The last thing we want is politicising the project and delaying it further.

Still not sure whether the state government is going to consider Zoom's bid or appeal at supreme court. We will have to wait and watch.
