Istanbul's districts by me *Moda and Kadikoy*

First of all I will start with Moda which is my neighbourhood. It’s located in Anatolian side of Istanbul and also known as Cape Moda. Moda district is next-door neighbourhood of Kadiköy district and it belongs east of it at the shores of Marmara sea.

Lets start with general street level scenes of the neighbourhood.

Many apartments have pastel facades.

Daily street scenes of the district

One of the highschools(lise) of Moda

This is Moda Park which is very close to my flat.

There is a small playground for kids.

There are many tea gardens around… Mainly retired old people enjoy the scenery.

Moda is a perfect place for walking, resting, reading somethings and enjoying the weather

Nowadays outdoor adverts are mainly about Olympics.

An Istanbul classic… busy ATMs

You can find many small beer houses around here.

and tequila just for 6 YTL

More apartment buildings with large balconies.

Nice house in the middle of apartments

View of Kalamis district from Moda.

Many Istanbulites send their children to sailing clubs at summer time. Probably it’s training time.

Istanbul is famous with its historical ferries. This one is going to Kadiköy from Prince Islands.

Some streets with historical buildings and tramway track. Tramway connects two sister districts Moda and Kadiköy.

Some wooden Otoman houses…

It looks quite relaxed

Istanbul is very large city so generally people do not prefer to use Vespas. But stil you can find many Vespas around and more than any other city which has over 10 mio population. That is because it has mediterranean soul although its not a mediterranean city.

A strange grafitti on the wall of a school

View of historical peninsula from Moda.

Looking through Kadiköy.

And Kadiköy starts from here…

To be continued… with pictures of Kadiköy district.

I hope you enjoyed the tour. Please leave your comments!

Nice to see pictures from the Asian side. When I was in Istanbul a couple of months ago I stayed mostly on the European side, except for a quick trip to Uskudar. I really liked it. Much more quiet and laid back than the European side.

Later I looked on the internet for flats to rent, and I was surprised by how expensive they are. Are they any cheaper in Moda?

Cool pictures. Istanbul is definitely my favourite European city, I'd love to visit.

The cheapest flat costs you around $900 - $1000 per month in Moda. But if you spend at least 1 week maybe you can rent cheaper 1 room flats from owner instead of real estate agency

With some of their characteristics like nostalgic trams, beautiful scenery, wooden architecture, hills and climbing cobble stone roads they look quite similiar. San Francisco is just smaller version of it and a cool city.

Great pictures! Next time I go to Istanbul I want to go to the Asian side too. I've only been to Uskudar to see my family that lives there and it is so pretty but I didn't get to spend much time. I can't wait for the Kadikoy pictures.

And now it's time for Kadikoy.

After a small tour in Moda I represent its neighbouring district… Kadiköy! Kadiköy is quite large district. It is one of the busiest districts of Anatolian side with lots of business, schools, bookshops cafes, pubs and clubs and many other atractions… It is quite crowded during the day time and at night also.

It is both residential and commercial district but my photgraphs mainly represent its residential and silent side.

Here I start with some regular apartments of Kadiköy

Street scenes and daily life around the neighbourhood

Towards Bahariye Street

On and around of Bahariye street which is very bust street located in the middle of Kadiköy.

Tramway passes on Bahariye street too.

Historical tram on the way towards Moda.

I'll upload more later

I want to inform you about the history of Kadiköy. Kadıköy is an older settlement than those on the European side of the city of İstanbul. Kadiköy changed hands time and time again, as Persians, Bithynians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Crusaders and Turks passed through the area, which was badly damaged during the riotous Fourth Crusade and eventually passed into Ottoman hands in 1353, a full hundred years before İstanbul(Constantinople) was conquered.

Great tour Kafkas! These are just two of the many great neigborhoods of Istanbul. Sadly I just passed through this area really quickly and didn't get too much time to really explore when I was in Istanbul, but I know I'll be back for sure.
