Chicago - From the loop to Skokie on the El

Took the El up to Skokie last week, these shots were from the back window of the Purple then Yellow lines.

I was mainly looking East ( and South ), that evening the light was too low for photos, but I noticed quite a few new buildings to the West of the line.

Wells/Washingotn
1) Leaving Wells/Washington

VanBuren
2) Looking W down VanBuren, 225 W VanBuren on the left

3)

Jackson & Adams
4) Turning down Wabash - CNA on the left

Madison & Wabash
5) The much maligned Mid Continental Plaza

6) One Millennium Park West

Randoph & Wabash
7) Steetwall ( looking south down Wabash )

State & Lake
8) TheWit

9)Leaving the loop

Merchandise Mart
10) 300 N LaSalle in back.

11)

Chicago
12) Silver Tower

13)

14) 110 W Superior

15) Trump Tower starts to dominate at this distance

Division
16)757 Orleans ( from a distance, right up on the Chicago stop).

17)

18) Trump Tower, 110 Superior, 353 N Clark, 300 N LaSalle

Sedgwick
19) Track improvements

20)

21) SoNo

22)

23)

Armitage
24)Subway joins us

25)

Fullerton
26) Now that smoking has not only been banned, but stopped, the platform will be concrete ( lit buts would cause fires regularly back in the last century ).

27) Aon & Trump

28)

29) How rails are attached to concrete sleepers.

30)

Belmont
31) More of the new concrete

32)

33) Belmont Ave

34) 21st century greystones

35)

36)

Addison
37)

Sheridan
38) The antisocial courtyard building on the right, with the lights of Wrigley field poking over the top.

39) Dakin street

40)

41) The view from the 3rd floor hallway of the building at the back was always fun, you can't see the tracks, just the train coming at you until at the very last minute it turns in an ear splitting squeal.

42)

Wilson
43)

44)

45)

46)

47)

Lawrence
48)

Thornedale
49)

50)

BrynMawyr
51)

Loyola
52)

53)

Morse
54)

Jarvis
55)

Howard
56)

On to Skokie
57)

58)

59)

60)

Skokie
61)

62)

63)

64)

Howard
65) The only one of the new buildings west of the tracks that I caught, fits in well with the trains.

66)

67) I like the way it seems to have preserved the desolate and abandoned feel of the street.

68) Older stuff

Can't use one to pull an engine

The older steel trusses are perfect for tying your hoist to, and nobody notices oil under the tracks.
