Largest Shopping Malls in the World

I decided to start a thread on the world's largest shopping malls since there could be many shopping malls that have at least 2,000,000 sq ft of retail space. The largest shopping mall is the largely vacant South china Mall. There are two under-construction malls in Dubai that could surpass its size soon.

I heard theres a new one in Beijing too thats now the worlds second largest, the Golden Resources Mall.

rentable space

1. South China Mall, Dongguan 7.1 million sq. feet
2. SM Golden Resources Mall, Beijing 6 million sq. feet
3. Mall of Asia, Pasay City, Philippines 4.2 million sq. feet
4. Cevahir Istanbul, 3.8 million sq. feet
5. West Edmonton Mall, Edmonton, Canada 3.8 million sq. feet
6. SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City, Philippines, 3.6 million sq. feet
7. Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia 3.4 million sq. feet
8. Beijing Mall, 3.4 million sq. feet
9. Zhenjia Mall, Guangzhou, 3 million sq. feet
10. SM City North Esda, Quezon City, Philippines, 3 million sq. feet

Almost all these malls take advantage of the weather in places where its too hot/ too cold to shop normally (eg Canada, Southern China, Philippines).

Golden Resources Mall:

Golden Resources Shopping Mall, or Jin Yuan is a shopping mall located near the Fourth Ring Road in Beijing, People's Republic of China.

In English, the mall has earned the nickname Great Mall of China, owing to its total area of 7.3 million square feet (680,000 square metres) over six floors. At 1.5 times the size of the Mall of America, Golden Resources Mall was the world's largest shopping mall from 2004 to 2005.[1][2]

The mall was completed on 20 October 2004 after 20 months of construction and opened four days later.

Although the developer of the mall initially estimated that the mall would have 50,000 shoppers a day, as of 2004 the actual number was far smaller, as few as 20 in an hour. One problem was that prices of most items sold were far beyond the purchasing ability of most ordinary Chinese. Another barrier was the inaccessibility of Golden Resources Shopping Mall to foreign consumers because of what Forbes magazine calls "a tough location outside the heart of the city."

In 2005, Golden Resources Shopping Mall became the world's second-largest mall when South China Mall in Dongguan was completed. It was still in second place as of late 2006.

Should there be any proposed shopping malls that may be over 2,000,000 square feet in area? I know the Mall of Arabia in Dubai is one of them. We'll find out later.

Im kinda gald malls arent catching on that well in China. All that famous, vibrant traditional streetlife of the cities would be sucked away. I can understand their popularity in hot and humid countries, as well as freezing ones though.
