Canal Walk Mall in Cape Town, South Africa is third largest in the country at 125 000m2 and currently being expanded to 144 000m2:

Sandton City (located in Sandton (Johannesburg)) is the second largest and is currently undergoing a huge overhaul with a 30 000m2 addition, bringing it to around 186 000m2, the recladding of the two existing towers on top of it and the building of the tallest building in Africa too:

Gateway Mall located in Durban is the biggest, currently at 166 000m2. It will be dethroned by Sandton City once it's done with its completion:

Activities include the world's largest in-door climbing wall, a skate park designed by Tony Hawk, I-max theatres, a Wavehouse and much more.

Zonki'Zizwe mall, which will also be located in Johannesburg, is currently under construction and will be the largest at 200 000m2 when it is completed. Another mall in Durban, part of a huge development, should it be approved, will be even larger.

Some masterplans for the Tilburg Mall. A large shopping mall in the southern part of the Netherlands with +/- 250 shops.

Quote:

Some facts;
- +/- 80.000 - 100.000 m2 shopping space
- Space for cafe's and restaurants
- Space for fashion shows, art and other cultural things
- Hotel and more
It is still unkown if the shopping mall will be built. 70% of the people living in Tilburg wants it, but many people are afraid that the city center will lose shops.
Some people say there is no need to built such a big shopping mall in the southern part of NL, they say it should be built in the Randstad.
The Randstad is the western part of the Netherlands with cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam, Haarlem and many other big cities.

The only difference is between mega malls in China compared to that of The Philippines is the latter is more successful.

Unlike South China or Golden Resources, SM North and Mall Asia have large crowds, lots of stores, restaurants and entertainment areas and of course, lots of activities and good business.

MEGA Belaya Dacha mall in Russia is (edit:second biggest,Trafford centre in London is slightly bigger) biggest in Europe: total area is 300,000 square meters. Nothing surprising as shopping malls seem more popular in Russia than In Europe.

China's PPP is technically higher. But it's also if the majority of it's citizens can afford to buy the luxuries in life.

On the other hand, I find The Philippines more commercialized especially when it comes to branded goods.

Filipinos love shopping! I would not be surprised if shopping malls would click even if built at far flung locations.
