Milano, August 2008

Milano (1,3 mill. inh., 4,8 mill. in Province) under completely untypical circumstances - no rush, almost without traffic thanks to the Sunday during vacation season for the Milanese.
Only bad dressed tourists in shorts and slippers were disturbing the metropolis of fashion

construction site Milanofiori Nord

Location Project Porta Nuova near Porta Garibaldi Station

In the neighbourhood: 163m-Tower for the Regione Lombardia

Surroundings

Stazione Centrale

Around Stazione Centrale

Grattacielo Pirelli

Corso Buenos Aires, one of the great shopping boulevards
Piazza Argentina

Piazzale Loreto: Usually the traffic jam here gives one a feeling of apocalypse

Typical side street

Porta Venezia

Nice side street

Instead of air-con...

1) Well, a lot of courage by you. Going to Gioia (MM Station) in order to see the skyscraper's worksite of the Lombardy Region. It's a pretty butt ugly area, now.

BTW, next to this area there is the huge area of the City of Fashion.

2) Have you been to the Monumental Cemetery and to the Brera Area?

3) Did you do a tour of Italy?

@TohrAlkimista
1) Yes, indeed, I´m courageous
2) I´ve never been to the Cemetary, but I´ve been to Brera once or twice before and I loved it.
3) Not exactly, I´m staying in a small village in Piemonte (vacation) especially to drink wonderful wine and enjoy great food here
Since Turin, Genova and Milan are not too far, I made these daytrips.

Eh Eh....My hometown
The construction site in the first pic is close to the mall I usually go to.
It's interesting to see the pictres a foreinger takes of your own city, and what's impresses him. Good work

Uhm, another thing.

The first pics refer to a new directional complex bordering the A7 motorway.

If you want to have some infos, the entire masterplan is called Milanofiori 2000.

It includes Milanofiori Nord, the one U/C you saw and Milanofiori Sud, that will rise nthe next year and there will be some towers till 212 m.

Here the website with renderings (available in english):

http://www.milanofiori2000.it/

Hope you enjoyed your stay here in North Italy.

@TohrAlkimista
Thanks for the info. It seems that there´s a lot going on in Milano, very good. As you already mentioned referring to Gioia: Milano deserved a much better looking Centro direzionale, and I´m glad, there´s some great measured, promising activity around Gioia/Porta Garibaldi Station.

Of course I enjoyed Northern Italy, I always did!

Great photographs, thanks for sharing!

It's always interesting to see new construction in a city like Milan. They just seem to do nearly everything with style there!
